The Ithanian Hivres are former Altalar principalities that fell into Ailor hands after their peaceful march for freedom from Altalar rule, allowing the regional Altalar to survive and thrive behind the scenes, working in politics and other affairs while Ailor came to dominate. Each Hivre is equal in the Ithanian mind to a kingdom, but in practice the outside world sees the regions as provinces beneath the Ithanian Sovereignty (which is not an undue assessment). They range in size as well as terrain, but all are loyal to the Regalian Empire and united in obedience, faith, and pacifism.
Haute Puisse is the most important Hivre for many in Ithania, despite it being one of the smallest. Located centrally in Ithania, it is just south of Les Grandes Laques that dominate the heartland of the region. Bijoux-vert-plusse-rême, the capital of the Ithanian Sovereignty, sits near a river mouth that feeds out into the Laques, with the lights and structures of La Portée du Paradis just barely visible across the water, even with the vast distance between the two. The capital is a gilded seat, made glorious and even more elaborate than when it was under the Altalar, thanks to concerted and repeated investments in it by the various Sovereigns Ithania has had over the decades. The surrounding territory is some of the most idyllic and mansion-covered terrain in Aloria, with vast vineyards punctuated by undisturbed woodlands and quaint villages that serve to help keep the mansions of Ithania’s wealthy diplomats and members of state fed, staffed, and entertained. In the far southern fringes of this territory rest the beginnings of the Paysec Desert, traditionally seen as the homeland of the ancient Asha.
Dusois is a unique Hivre due to its varying climate; from temperate woodlands to plains to desert, the last of which takes up the lower third of the nation. Here, there are few to no settlements, what few existing serving as border waystations and settlements at the fringes of its dry sands. Further north lies the rolling pastures, and ultimately the smattered woodlands that characterize normal Ithania. What Dusois is most known for though, in addition to its neighbor Bressuivre, is its coastline. Facing out toward the Western Calms and north enough in Daen so as to not be too close to the immediate dangers of the Far West, the coastal centers of the region are some of the most gorgeous in Aloria. With white sandy beaches and magnificent Altalar towers thrusting upward into the sky with dozens of large, mostly Ailor-aligned structures beneath them, these regions are often traveled to by Ithania’s rich for relaxation and time away from their duties back home. Unique in Dusois is the existence of mud baths along the southernmost reaches of the coastline, these sites being the product of volcanoes extinct for centuries, not even stirring at the Cataclysm. Some even claim that the Altalar purposefully killed these now flattened former titans in order to increase access to their beautifying capabilities, but what is certain is that the Ithanian rich love the region, and that this is unlikely to change in the future.
San-Lume is the second smallest Ithanian Hivre, and is well known for also having the smallest population. Much of its western and northern territory is filled with the Paysec Desert, whose lone bastion of real civilization is the Hadritya of Najam Baeid, which is known for being the furthest from Farah’deen. The great Antella Mountain Chain serves as a great boundary separating this desert in two, cutting across the middle of the region and up into nearby Agennes-sur-Livres. However, the region is still bathed in humid temperatures and rains, primarily thanks to sitting on the Daendroc Sea. For many, the region has little of note due to its low population, however, that would be an underestimation. San-Lume derives its power not from its own wealth, but from that of other lands, particularly the Kingdom of Lusits which sits across the Gulf of Lusits on its southern coastline. For years, while the Northern Elven Kingdoms generally shirked trade with the Daendroc state, San-Lume did not and became the gateway for travel from Ithania to Lusits and vice versa, helping convey trade goods and important dignitaries, and aiding in the region to their south’s development. For that reason, San-Lume has long held power, and with L’Elvellen rising from the ashes of the Northern Elven Kingdoms, it is likely that this benefit from trade will only increase, as land routes are unified and used more often to avoid the Asha Corsairs that so often prey on Ithanian shipping.
Agennes-sur-Livres is best known to the outside world for its cosmopolitan nature and heavy scholarly focus. The region’s terrain is enormously varied, with the Antella Mountain Chain coming up from the south and curving to the west, essentially serving as a boundary from the tailend of the Paysec Desert, which brushes through the region’s southwest. Coming from La Laque du Prospérité is the river that gives the region its name, La Livres; a long and winding source of freshwater that has several tributaries such as La Penne, La Encre and La Signet. As a result, there are a number of swamps and marshes across the center and southeast of the Hivre populated sparsely or by coastal urban regions. In ancient times, the city of Agenn’tren was the domain of scholarly Altalar, who had collected vast knowledge from expeditions and journeys up into the northern areas of Aloria over the centuries of the Allorn Empire. When the Cataclysm came and the Ailor rose up, Agenn’tren was renamed Agennes and the Hivre that based itself out of the city ultimately became similarly focused on the knowledge of the past. However, it might also be said that the region trains some of the greatest propagandists who ever lived rather than scholars, as the Altalar tradition remains strong in the region. As a result, the history of the Asha, Velheim and other Nelfin Races is often rejected in favor of recording cultural history and of supporting the claims of Ailor, if not Ithanian Ailor, supremacy. Despite this, the great libraries and record halls of centers like Ithannsia Osibralla and Academie du Éducation dans l'Histoire du Monde still hold records from the older Altalar tradition of hoarding all knowledge, no matter its origin point.
Shevaix, also known as “La Hivre du Terre D'or” (Hivre of Golden Earth), is considered by many to be second only to the Regalian Lordship of Anglia as an agricultural economy. Located on the wide flat plains of central Ithania, huge fields of wheat and vast grazing lands of cattle populate this region, helping to supply grain for the entirety of Ithania and then even some territories beyond, as the surplus is given to areas like Nordskag or L’Elvellen for their own uses. What areas are not dominated by this vast agricultural project are taken up by the lushious temperate woodland known as “La Forête de Liberté” or “The Forest of Freedom”. Within this expansive woodland hide many unique creatures, such as the Longtail Gryphon, but also other animals commonly hunted by the Ithanian nobility of the region, who live their lives in the urban centers that work to process all of the agricultural produce and convert it into usable foodstuffs. Shevaix is also the Hivre which contains the illustrious city of La Portée du Paradis, which grew from a fishing village along the vast shores of La Laque du Prospérité. Indeed, all of Les Grandes Laques are important in the region, bordering the Hivre in the west, south, and even a bit in the southeast.
Bressuivre is a Hivre sharply contrasted by the ultra rich clinging to the decadent western coastline and their resort cities in comparison to the poor citizens which dominate the mountain ranges, marshes, and forests that make up the rest of the Hivre. In comparison to Dusois, the resort cities here are far more food, drink and exotic material goods related, thanks in part due to their proximity to the Fendarfelle Colonies and the materials that can be extracted from the region. Additionally, their varied terrain has allowed these regional resort cities to be supplied with various types of stone and gemstone from the mountains, as well as with exotic, unique, and vast amounts of frogs, snails, and other aquatic creatures for consumption from the marshes, while the forests help supply wood and other hunted animals. As a result of all of this material wealth uniting in the coastal cities, the region is often labelled the “party capital” of Aloria by youth culture in Daen, Fendarfelle and even some areas of The North Belt. This region has also seen some of the most brutal crackdowns on lower class Ithanian society, who have routinely rebelled seeking better living conditions.
Castellajoux might be the largest Hivre, but it is a hollow claim given the low amount of people who live in the northern sections of the region. The region is a place of great historical importance for the Altalar and perhaps the wider world (though very few are aware of this) as it was here, in lands long sunk into the sea, that the Allorn Empress supposedly engaged the forces of the Fifth Void Invasion. As a result, a series of Altalar commissioned, designed and overseen monuments and memorials that now dot the frequently cliffed northern coastline, all in honor of this supposed great and tremendous sacrifice. Asha Corsairs have damaged or outright taken down many of these in defiance of the Altalar when sailing through the area, who often go about rebuilding them every few years in response. As for the rest of the region, it might accurately be called "a plain of nothing" quite accurately, much to the displeasure of the region’s leadership. Cattle are the most common regional commodity, largely kept in the greener south, out of the rocky, colder, and more-prone-to-snow northern half of the Hivre. Castellajoux is known for one thing though, and that is the fabulous water games and sports they set up every year involving their section of the coastline of La Laque de Jeux, “The Lake of Games” which is one of Les Grandes Laques.
Carnigoux de Foix
Carnigoux de Foix is easily and correctly considered by many to be one of the most populous and important Hivres in Ithania, long rivaling the importance given to Haute Puisse. The region is a comfortable mix of mountains, sweeping plains and small forests, fed by several minor rivers. However, the region is most heavily dominated by cities, with almost two dozen along the eastern coastline that faces outward to the Great Middle Sea, and several dozen more inland. All of this urban development has long been spurred thanks to Carnigoux de Foix’s dominance of trade due to facing the Regalian Archipelago and lands beyond in Essalonia and The North Belt. It even has extensive trading relationships in Farah’deen, as it is the Hivre closest to such regions thanks to its bulged and curving formation. Additionally, Carnigoux de Foix is the most cosmopolitan of the Ithanian Hivres, with many Ithanians agreeing to it having the most foreigners and exotic Races within its borders, who are drawn to the region to trade and deal with the Ithanians and others. The region is also famed nowadays for possessing the brief capital of the Regalian Empire, Joyau-vert du Nord, within its borders. Unfortunately, all of this wealth and prosperity has long left the region a target of the Velheim, who raided the region for years as the closest and most densely populated Hivre. Only in recent years have the worst of these raids ceased, which often came from the Kingdom of Nordskag, though minor ones from the unaffiliated nations of Cain still occasionally occur.
