Holy Water is both a blessing and a weapon for the faithful devotees of the Unionist Sancella, and a horrible weapon for those with any Void affiliations. Holy Water appears simple, yet can be extremely destructive when properly used, being likened to holy fire. This is also why its nickname is often holy fire for those who make a profession of Vampire hunting or torturing of Void Worshipers. Holy Water is a well preserved secret in Regalia, as both the state and the Sancella ensure that outsiders only ever receive a limited supply of the substance, but never end up learning how to actually produce it. The ingredients have never been reverse engineered, and combined with the fact that the potion has differing effects on different subjects, has led some scholars and hobbyist alchemists to conclude that some Magic is involved in its creation. Holy Water is commonly dispensed at fonts of Union, central fountains that are used by Unionist Curates to bless weddings, births and deaths. Any visitor is capable of simply dipping a bottle in to extract it, and many curates offer it freely for their congregation. At the end of every day, Silent Sisters refill the fonts found in virtually every Unionist Temple, meaning however that it is only available within the borders of the Regalian Empire.

Origins

The origins of Holy Water are not known to the public, or even to notable alchemists. It is generally assumed that the concoction was created sometime during the Unspoken War, though who created it and who continues to create it is entirely unknown to the public. Rumors exist that it is produced somewhere in the Regalian Imperial Palace, and that Silent Sister then carry it to the various corners of the Empire, either on foot or by Sancella ships in order to travel further beyond the imperial capital.

Characteristics

Application

There are three known manners of application. The first, and most popular application is direct skin exposure. This is usually done by either letting a bottle run out onto exposed skin, or by thrusting a bottle in the direction of a person to cause a wide spread of Holy Water to spray at them. This is by far considered the least effective method of direct application because the vast majority of the substance is lost in the application process or simply does not hit the target. The second and more frequent use of application is the projectile application, where Holy Water is locked in a thin glass sphere and sealed with a small cork, after which it is thrown onto an object or person. This is generally considered the most reliable form of application because it causes the deposition of the entire contents onto the target, though there is always the chance of missing. This is, however, the most expensive method of application since it requires the purchasing of these specifically created glass spheres which are expensive to make and require a specific skill set that is not available to all glass blowers. Specialized stores that supply Vampire hunters and Demon hunters in Regalia often sell these objects, though the prices are too steep for anyone to ever carry more than one on them, and they must pay great care for these objects to prevent them from breaking prematurely. The final method of application is the passive carry, by which Holy Water is inserted into flasks or glasses, and simply attached to the body by attaching it with strings or by suspending it inside clothing. This is considered the least affecting form of application because only half the effect of Holy Water is imparted this way. There is a fourth unofficial form of application, to be submerged in Holy Water. This is generally not considered an active form of application because while Holy Water is easy to obtain, it loses potency after 24 hours and only retains potency while inside the Holy Fonts. Holy Fonts can only be found in Unionist Sancella Temples and Cathedrals (not Chapels, they are too small) and various water edifices in Imperial Palace and Castles.

Physical Characteristics

Holy Water is often considered beautiful and enchanting to those who don’t know the damaging properties that can be inflicted on specific creatures and people. It is, as such, easy to recognize as the description is commonly known far and wide and even peasants in the depths of Anglia know what it looks like. When inside containers, the liquid can be seen to be swirling with white glittery substances that seemingly move on their own, not dissimilar from Soul Essence as it is seen by Soul Mages.

Trivia

  • Holy Water is a favorite bathing ingredient for the Sovereigns of Ithania.
  • Holy Water can also be used to produce a delicious Holy Bread. The Bread itself has no special properties.
  • Holy Water when dilluted with normal water loses its properties. Properties are lost at a rough 2 to 3 parts Water to Holy Water.
