Rank 1 for Lore and World and other Departments

Rank 1 ratings will be achieved when I believe the person is dedicated to MassiveCraft and has showed the ability to fulfill tasks given by the rest of the Staff. This is a fairly simple rating, so I tend to shower it around.

Rank 2 for Lore and World

Rank 2 rating for the Lore and World requires the active showing of cooperation competence for me. For the Lore staff, this means being able to cooperate with other Lore and RP staff on Write-me's, discuss Character Reviews, and be generally useful in the department. For the World staff, it means to me the ability to cooperate with other World members on large builds, for example when MrHappyTinkles led a series of builders to build the Tavern together. For lone wolves like Danywood, this cooperation can be replaced by showing high competence and dedication to MassiveCraft, as I recognize the fact that some builders just really like working alone.

Rank 2 for other Departments

Rank 2 for other departments is gained by showing dedication, communication and cooperation in the person's domestic department, but also externally. For a game staff to get their rating increased from 1 to 2 for example, they need to show their ability to communicate with other department members, as well as cooperate with them, and work more than the bare minimum.

Rank 3 for Lore and World

Rank 3 for the Lore and World department ratings for me require the person to show extreme competence with innovating within the department. For example in the Lore, Faewyn innovated the department by increasing the quality of reviews and setting a new standard that was followed by the rest. Ryciera took great care of the Wiki and energized the entire department to create high quality written work. For the World department, it requires the ability to show leading capabilities. Th3_Drunk_Monk for example successfully leads large groups of people on Bo2 construction, and Kellock93 did amazing work on the Field restructure and the Warrenord construction.

Rank 3 for other Departments

Rank 3 for other departments is gained by showing innovation, leadership skill and direction understanding for MassiveCraft as a whole. This means having the ability to successfully lead members of any department in a large group, innovating one's own department and being able to form a link with many other departments, facilitating communication between staff member. A good example is _Omnomivore_ Who pioneered a document to teach other Game staff standard practices, as well as communication efforts that span across many departments in her helpfulness.

Things that will result in me lowering your rank

  • Inactivity: For example disappearing without a message for weeks or months on end. I make exceptions for those who report their absence.
  • Disrespecting the Staff hierarchy for invalid reasons: For example engaging in behavior that you were told not to do by a senior staff member.
  • Sabotaging progress for the Server or Staff for invalid reasons: For example preventing a feature from being released without offering a compromise or solution or alternative.
  • Unprofessional public behavior: Discussing staff matters openly with players, discussing the hierarchy or staff decisions with players when the information is confidential.

This that will result in me immediately wanting to lower your rating to 0

  • Doing the absolute minimum of 1 point per week. I personally see this as ineffective participation. It's okay for you to go inactive for a couple of weeks, but staff should not strive to spend 1 hour of 168 per week on MassiveCraft.
  • Leaking confidential Staff information for personal benefit.
  • Abusing Staff position for personal benefit.

Ranks in general

I do not belive that the bare minimum spending 1 hour out of 168 a week on MassiveCraft is enough to sustain a rank 1 rating even. Staff is not supposed to be something you achieve so you can brag about it to your friends and use the benefits the other x hours you are on the server not doing staff work.

Rank 1 for Gamestaff

Rank 1 ratings are achieved when i belive you have shown interrest in gamestaff work and attempted to go on tickets with current gamestaff, helped out in helpchat and gone through the gamestaff training course to learn the ropes.

Rank 1 for Other Departments

Rank 1 ratings for other departments depends on the communication and projects you have delivered. The quality of the projects and communicating with me and other staff on teamspeak (for example) will earn you this rank. Other Direction members can throw in their opinions aswell if i have not had enough chance to get to know someone and 2 of the other Direction staff has then i will follow suit and trust their judgement until i can make up my own mind.

Rank 2 for Gamestaff

Rank 2 ratings are harder to achieve from me, You need to be able to work with others, know what you can do and what you can't do, remain unbiased and ask for help when you need it. There also needs to be some communication toward other departments and willingness to work with them. To be rank 2 you also need to be able to teach new staff (aspirants) how to be gamestaff. Take them on tickets, show them some tricks, help new trusteds by showing them how to do things differently instead of telling them off when they make mistakes.

Rank 2 for Other departments

Dedication, communication and cooperation with others in your department aswell as other departments. Delivering projects, following through on projects you state you will complete is a great way to show me you belong as a rank 2. Loners get a pass on cooperation by delivering high quality work on a regular basis. Recommendation from department leaders is often highly valued in these cases.

Rank 3 for Gamestaff

Rank 3 ratings are for the high quality problem solvers. They think quick, they solve issues, teach others and drive the department forward. Both _Omnomivore_ and Jamescl created great gamestaff guides that now help new staff learn the basics of being gamestaff. Gethelp reviewed and updated the rules page and made the rules much easier to read and understand for players and staff. The rank 3's guide and assist lower ranked staff every day, they help players by answering tickets correctly and in a timely manner aswell and communicate inwards and with the other departments.

Delivering high quality projects and dragging other staff along on those projects is a great way to show me you have what it takes to be a rank 3. Recommendation from department leaders is often highly valued in these cases.

Things that will result in me lowering your rank or simply rating you 0.

  • Inactivity: Disappearing without a message for weeks or months on end, exception made for those who report absence.
  • Bare minimum: Doing bare minimum with no reason for an extended period of time. A week or two or if you have reported being unavailable to do work is ok.
  • Sabotaging progress for the Server or Staff for invalid reasons: For example preventing a feature from being released without offering a compromise or solution or alternative.
  • Breaking staff codex: Speaking of things you learn as staff from the skype, meetings, documents etc and giving out confidential information will result in me lowering your rank to 0.
  • Disrespecting the Staff hierarchy for invalid reasons: For example engaging in behavior that you were told not to do by a senior staff member.
  • Violation of Staff:Codex.

Regarding competency ratings and rank, be aware that they are not a direct reward for points or hours of work, rather, they are an assessment of a team member's demonstrated ability and conduct over time.

Rank 1 in any department

The individual must demonstrate core competency within their department. They should also be working cooperatively with other members of the department.

Rank 2 in any department

Mastery over a broad spectrum of tasks within a department should be present. Team members should be actively working and communicating with the team as a whole, not just their department. Rank 2 staff should also be willing and able to help out newer members.

Rank 3 in any department

Team members at this level should lead by example as experienced veterans within their area. They should have some accomplishments under their belt that go beyond task fulfillment—the ability to smoothly adopt a leadership role and innovate within the department separates the hard-working and competent rank two from a hard-working and competent rank three. Rank three members should be held to a very high standard, as both players and staff members must be able to look to them as models of competency and conduct.

Things that will result in me lowering your rank

  • Long uncommunicated absences. Please let me or your department leader know if you're not going to be around for a week or more.
  • Engaging in unprofessional public behavior or in private behavior that indicates a likelihood of future public misconduct.
  • Intentionally working against the best interests of the server. This may include gaming the point system by misrepresentation or working against other staff members for personal reasons.
  • Inability to perform one's work as a staff member. This may be a result of ongoing poor performance or a failure to work within the staff hierarchy.
  • Violation of Staff:Codex. This includes breaches of privacy as well as a failure to uphold the standard of staff as friendly equals to the other players.
