Coal is said to be the mineral that makes Aloria go round, powering every bit of Regalian technology, from furnaces to even the large steam machines that the Qadir produce. Perhaps one of the most common materials around the world, thousands of pounds of coal are mined and transported every day by all races of Aloria. Often found in the upper levels of Aloria’s crust, all the Empires that dominate Aloria have found it useful, whether it be for burning in a furnace or powering their machines.
Coal is a fundamental and widespread material, located across all of Aloria and even beyond, serving all Races who come into contact with it. It cannot be carved or made to decorate one’s self properly, but what it does do is burn. Coal burns when put into a fire and serves as an alternative, better fuel source to wood in various locations across the world. It is also abundant beyond anyone’s wildest dreams and is very unlikely to ever run out.

History
As long as civilization has existed, so has coal. Even the Seraph, the magically advanced precursors of Aloria’s present-day races were said to have used coal as a source of heat and light. Where there is history, there is coal. Over time, the mining of coal increased dramatically as the scales of wars and populations of various races exploded with the inventions of more efficient farming, and so on. Regalia mines the most coal in Aloria, totalling just over half of the total coal mined in Aloria, the other fifty percent being split between the Songaskia and the Ch’ien-Ji.
Coal has been found, lost, and rediscovered by countless Races and Cultures over the millennia. For the Altalar, it was a substance that helped their early society avoid burning the great jungle trees they so loved, however, by the apex of arrogance in the Allorn Empire, it was only seen as a crude source of fuel for slaves to use or for transport at the behest of their masters. For the Qadir of the Sariyd Empire, Coal helped to fuel their exploration of Steam Power as well as heating devices, though the Great Storm relegated its uses to Steam Power alone to help heat Songaskian spas. In the Far East, Coal was and still is used by all Sihai Dynasties as a fuel source and it exists in such vast amounts that the majority of the population uses it to help them cook, forge, and warm themselves. Then there are the Ailor. The Ailor have used Coal for centuries, first back on Ceardia, later using it at the behest of Altalar masters in Daen and ultimately, Coal mining occurred for the first time in the Regalian Archipelago sometime around 450 BC. Today, the Ailor use Coal to fuel Steam Power, but it is also used by a variety of people for tasks and jobs like smithing. It is not as vastly common as in the Far East, and so many still use wood to make fires, but many urban centers possess large yards of this substance to help feed those fires of the individuals who can afford to buy the simple, but effective, material.

Coal is instantly recognisable, taking the form of a black rock that leaves black dust on whatever it touches. This dust is flammable, though it goes completely unused.. It can be as large as a palm but is generally the size of a throwable rock. The rock is light, and porous.
Coal is a coarse, dark-colored substance ranging from black to dark grey. Its consistency varies enormously, some pieces being more “glossy” and less coarse while others are sharp and jagged. The substance cannot be refined and is burned raw.

General Uses
General Uses
Coal is used to create heat and power fires in Alorian homes. It is cheap and easy to obtain, thus being able to be afforded by even the poorest of households to keep warm during the winter months. Occasionally coal is also used as a cheap person’s ‘make-up’, serving the purpose of eye-shadow for those that cannot afford the real thing. This is a common practice during commoner weddings and funerals, where one has to appear fancier than they actually are.
Coal is burned as a fuel source by many thousands of people, each and every day across the world. The fires it creates heat homes through fireplaces, heat blacksmith forges, heat water to the point of creating steam and making Steam Power possible and much more. It can be used to write or can be crushed into a crude pigment, but such uses are only used in very unrefined societies like the Url or some Orc tribes.

Abilities
It has no natural abilities.

Coal burns when put into a fire and serves as an alternative, better fuel source to wood in various locations across the world. History

Characteristics

Appearance

Coal is a coarse, dark-colored substance ranging from black to dark grey. Its consistency varies enormously, some pieces being more “glossy” and less coarse while others are sharp and jagged. The substance cannot be refined and is burned raw.

General Uses

Coal is burned as a fuel source by many thousands of people, each and every day across the world. The fires it creates heat homes through fireplaces, heat blacksmith forges, heat water to the point of creating steam and making Steam Power possible and much more. It can be used to write or can be crushed into a crude pigment, but such uses are only used in very unrefined societies like the Url or some Orc tribes.

Trivia

 • The most famed region for Coal production in the Regalian Archipelago was the Lordship of Vultaro. Its utter collapse, and the mass destruction of its Coal industry over the past few years has forced the Regalian Empire and the Imperial Navy to look elsewhere for the vast supplies they need, much to the benefit of other regions.
 • Coal tends to stain all it comes into contact with and the miners who engage in its extraction can turn as grey as a Kathar after as little as one day in the mines.
