Aloria’s plantlife is as unimaginably diverse. From the magically twisted landscape of Drowda to the pastoral meadows of Eroki, one may find every manner of plant. Some harm, a few heal, and others have yet to be discovered. Yet all have carved out a niche in this world, some even helping to determine the rise and fall of civilizations. To explore the botanical life of Aloria, one must inevitably embark on a journey of discovery that uncovers not only the secrets of the land itself but the history and culture of nearly every race and people that inhabit it.

Black Orchid

She knew her time had come when she found one on her nightstand.

The black orchid is a flower that has long been a part of the Kilika culture and the Church of Gestalt for the beliefs behind its colour and purpose. Once thought to be a bad omen or the cause of many a traveler’s misfortune, the religion of Gestalt has accepted it into their mythos as a plant that warns of the end of days.

Bloodthorn Vine

A minuscule scratch on the finger nestled unnoticed until it was too late.

Unique to the thick Guldar and eastern Daendroc jungles, bloodthorn vine is dark green with a leathery appearance and texture, covered in sharp, bright red thorns. Despite its appearance and properties, this vine is tame compared to the many dangers of the Guldar wilds. The thorns seep a venom that causes immediate numbness and paralysis with a large enough dose. Many die from heart and lung paralysis, not even realizing they had been scratched by the vines.

Corpse Weed

They knew they were goners when the corpse weed became entangled with their ship.

A long, thick, slimy plant that grow in massive clusters in coastal waters, Corpse weed colonies are often referred to as the forests of the sea. The plant itself consists of a length of pods, the first pod using roots to anchor itself into the sea floor, while every subsequent pod produces long slimy leaves. These chains can grow up to a hundred feet long, rising from shallow seabeds to float lazily on the ocean surface. These clusters are most known for giving sea predators a place to lurk during the day, as well as hiding sand banks and any other obstructions from view. Due to this, most seafaring people steer clear of corpse weed clusters with an almost superstitious weariness.

Magebane

He knew at once a conspiracy was at hand when he took a sip of his tea.

Magebane is a small blue-hued flower native to the islands of Etosil. It is commonly used for magnificent dyes and minty teas, However, it is also imbued with the magical properties of lapis lazuli. Its leaves may be used in teas and potions to weaken casters of magic.

Ogrebait

Almost took off my arm. Didn't realize it was going for my pocket.

Ogrebait is a large, leafy shrub found in the lowlands of High Trollar. The plant has flowers that can bloom in a color ranging from purple to yellow to white depending on breed. Ogrebait, while toxic to most races, is known to be consumed by Ogres for its tranquilizing effect. As such, ogre hunters also use the plant as bait, hence the name.

Stranglers

Can't tell if the bird flew into it, or it reached out to swallow the beast instead.

Stranglers are carnivorous plants found in Daendroc. Stranglers are epiphytes, growing in the air attached to trees as opposed to being rooted in the ground. The plant emits a strong, sweet scent to attract prey. The most notable aspects of this plant is its bulbous flower and its tendrils, which hang down from the plant and allows it to capture its prey.

Fireweed

There was a silence, before it suddenly and frighteningly caught fire.

Fireweed is an annual plant found within the forests of Ithania. It is a flowering plant known for its bright blooms and its tendency to spontaneously combust during warm, dry periods of the year. The plant is often found in small clusters in the wild or in large colonies near settlements.
