Laqoria is a brilliant material that appears in abundance across several Alorian continents. It weighs less than Steel, which has seen it used in armor and fine blades for centuries. Among the Ailor, knights commonly make use of the material, especially in the Ithanian and Burdigalan tradition to shine, literally, in tournaments and demonstrate their physical strength for wearing the heavy material. However, it has also been shaped and used in copious other uses as one of the most harder to work with materials in Aloria.

History

Laqoria has been known to Aloria since 1700 BC, when Ailor smiths began working and producing goods using a unique mineral recently acquired from their lands in Ceardia. Soon though, the materials proved itself to exist in minor veins across half a dozen regions of multiple continents. Then, with the formation of the Ailor states in the final few hundred years before the Cataclysm, the Ailor came to dominate use of the material. It took time, but in the final decades before the changing of the world, the smiths of the Regalian Archipelago could equal the efforts of the Altalar (who were now aware of the substance) in the basic forming of the material. Following the alterations of Aloria, Laqoria rose to prominence within the Regalian Empire as a common material used in suits of armor, whether ceremonial, decorative, or for protection. Ferr-Iron eventually reached an equal medium with Laqoria before eclipsing it after 200 AC as price changes and economic shifts meant that Laqoria was more expensive to produce due to the time required to work it. Additionally, with the Regalian shift to artillery, knights and mounted troops faded from relevance as major portions of battlefield actions. Today, in the post-Regalian Pessimism era, shining knights in brilliant armor stand as more of a significant symbol than a military tool, and with the recent political shifts in Aloria, valuables of all sorts are being churned out for use or display by many proud or defiant peoples seeking the brilliance and sheen Laqoria provides to make them feel better, or seem richer.

Characteristics

Appearance

Laqoria is a strange material in that it has much in common with crystal rather than metal in how it forms in the earth. Great hexagon clusters and prisms of the material exist often in proximity to Silver or Ferr-Iron, and in this natural state, it appears like blue-tinted Ferr-Iron on the outside. However, when broken open, it has an internal crystalline structure with little, reflective hexagons that cause it to sparkle like Diamonds. From there, when further refined, it has the appearance of Silver though with a light hue of sky blue covering it in a sheen.

General Uses

Laqoria has a wide array of uses. The most common and longstanding is its use in armor and sleek, lightweight weaponry. Thus, brilliantly clad knights fighting on horseback in tournaments or warriors wielding gleaming weapons are the most common places to find the material. However, other times the material is used to make purely decorative suits of armor. Alongside these martial-based uses, Laqoria has been used to make an array of utility items, most often vessels for liquids as well as jewelry, though such uses are often sparing.

Trivia

  • Laqoria exists most commonly in Oldt Era, Corontium and Essalonia. The material assumedly also exists in abundance in the territories of what is now the Dread Empire, but oddly enough, Kathar rarely mention the material, suggesting that the Altalar perhaps mined that region dry centuries ago.
  • The Laqorian Lancer was a well-known knight at Burdigalan tourneys from 268 to 290 AC where he won fame and acclaim from many, as well as quite a few tokens of favor from women. His identity was never revealed, but most identify him now as the openly homosexual son of Baron Lionel d’Douverne who died in 293 AC due to heart failure.
