Metalitra is often synonymous with the Dwarven Race of Aloria. Their society claims it to be the “eternal metal,” and material that helped them forge a dominance of Ellador centuries before the Isldar arrived, and ruined said dominance. The ore has a dark coloration in its natural state, but when refined produces a fine (though dull) golden sheen that accentuates the dark grey of the material. Since the diaspora of Dwarves, the material has grown popular with the flashier warriors of the other Races of Aloria. The fine contrasting colors help Metalitra stand out, even among the offerings of the Dwarves.

History

Metalitra has an unknown discovery date, but its nickname as the “eternal metal” encourages people to believe it was developed early into Dwarven society. The substance proved itself time and time again as the Dwarves expanded out from their founding Hold of Olovomm. They fought creatures of the deep earth and even of the surface now considered extinct, while others survive. They also bore great tunnels in the earth and broke down vast minerals for forging and experimentation. This was all on the back of Metalitra, which was used extensively in weapons, tools, and other objects at the height of the expanse of the Dwarven Empire. However, as the Dwarves declined, the use of Metalitra did as well. It became seen as a decadence, with those lower on the rungs of society either shirking it for the sake of practicality and focus on the “hardy substances,” or could no longer afford it. After the fall of the Dwarves from the surface, and the later wars with the Dakkar, Metalitra was once again thoroughly embraced, but most commonly among the Ruin-Khuur and Greborrin, as a symbol of the past glories of the Dwarves that needed to survive. Those that rejected the substance looked at its golden sheen and saw a hundred greedy eyes staring back, the ghosts of past plundering efforts deep in the earth, and so chose to avoid it; however, this sheen is exactly what caught the eyes of outsiders. By 200 AC, Dwarven forges, even if the owner personally rejected the substance, often made Metalitra tools and weapons for those that would pay, and this practice has continued until today with the Dwarves teaching few the secrets of how they forge it.

Characteristics

Appearance

Metalitra appears as a dark gold or bronze ore covered in dark grey and black swirling lines throughout the deposit. Once the metal is refined and crafted into a product, it has a dark grey color to it, with a dull golden sheen unmatched by mundane elements surrounding the finished product, thus making anything made with it a splendid object for any warrior. Some may be fickle and complain at the dull brightness of the color, but many still admire the base-pairing as sublime.

General Uses

Metalitra has seen the most use in tools and armor, forged to Dwarven specifications and proportions for decades, and less use in weaponry. However, with their spread into Ailor regions and a rekindling of their attachment to the material, the weapon can be found in a variety of forms, and thanks to the coin of Ailor, Fin’ullen, Altalar, Songaskians and more, in a variety of forms wearable or usable to the other Races of Aloria.

Trivia

  • It is unclear whether Metalitra is the ore that gave the term “metal” its modern name in Common or if the Dwarves simply adapted the name to emulate the word Metal as a symbol of their culture and the ancient nature of the material.
  • The ruins of many Dwarven Holds across Aloria often feature Metalitra weapons and armor, still worn by their long-deceased and decayed bearers. They are thus one of the easier payouts for scavengers and looters since many Dwarves value the return of these ancient heirlooms.
