Template:Info orders The Regalian Guard, unofficially referred to as the Bluesteel Order due to their colors and past affiliations, is the rotating-duty organization that is responsible for law enforcement on the Regalian Capital City, as well as the Aristocratic Realms beyond to a degree. The Regalian Guard contains large numbers of soldiers from the Mark armies of Regalia, with various layers of authority. Formally speaking, the Regalian Guard is led by the Landesgericht Inspector. This individual both personally approved and ejects Guards for either misbehaving or breaking the law. Furthermore however, the Landesgericht Inspector is subservient to the Lieutenant-Generals of the Regalian Mark Armies. The Regalian Guard has no formal command structure, rather, a secondary organization that is only half part of the Regalian Guard fulfills that role: The Crown Protectors. Since the restructure of the State Governance, Nobles make up a completely new Guard organization with relevance to the Regalian Guard.

Armaments

Bluesteel Armaments

The Regalian Guards are armed in so called semi-mail, a combination of half plates (usually localized to the chest, forearms, lower legs and waist), supported with a scale armor shirt and coat. Helmets are not always mandatory, while the armor often uses dark blue and black tone cloth to decorate it and make the guards visible in the street. The reason why they are unofficially called the Bluesteel Guards aside from past associations, is because all guards are armed with a Bluesteel Sword which is issued by the Regalian Guard Force. These weapons and armor don't belong to the individual soldiers, rather, they are returned to the barracks as soon as the Guard is fired or leaves duty. Guards can, in certain situations, also make use of a variety of military hardware when their Landesgericht Inspector approves of it. This includes siege crossbows for the removal of dangerous creatures, handheld battering rams for doors and gates, and in some extreme cases, the Regalian Guards operate the siege engines that are on top of the city walls to defend the city. Guards and Crown Protectors alike must always wear their signature armor, otherwise their actions are illegal if they violate state law (while on duty, Guards may be able to ignore some State laws in order to arrest or seize a criminal)

Command and Organization

There are four distinct layers of authority inside the Regalian Guard, the individual ranks are detailed below as well as descriptions on their authority.

  • At the top of the command chain are the Lieutenant-Generals of the Regalian Marks. Any soldier that passes into the City Guard is loyal to any of the five Lieutenant-Generals. This means that the Lieutenant-Generals have complete authority over the guards specifically from their Mark. They can issue arrests, court martial, command the guards to patrol, guard or engage in any other law enforcement actions. That being said, their authority only extends to the guards specifically belonging to their Mark. They cannot command Guards from other Marks. The commands issued by Lieutenant-Generals always overrule the commands issued by the Landesgericht Inspector.
  • The second authority is the Landesgericht Inspector. A Landesgericht Inspector can do everything a Lieutenant-General can do, and additionally they can also do it to all Guards, as opposed to just the Guards belonging to one Mark. That being said, any commands issued by the Inspector can be overruled by the Lieutenant-Generals.
  • The third authority in the Regalian Guard are the Crown Protectors. The Crown Protectors may not formally issue commands to Guards, but they may "take charge" of a Guard situation. This implies that in the absense of clear commands, Crown Protectors may lead an arrest situation, or lead a patrol. They however cannot specifically issue arrests or court martial. For more information on Crown Protectors, read below.
  • The last rank of authority is the Regalian Guards themselves. The Regalian Guards have no effective authority. They simply exist in the hierarchy to obey the commands and directives of those above.

Crown Protectors

Crown Protectors are a relatively new organization decreed by the Crown to be the new official repository for Nobles who wish to aid in the protection of the common citizens in the streets of Regalia. Officially speaking, Crown Protectors are a quasi-military Knight Order of supposed elite soldiers. In practice however, any noble that is either a Count title, a Duke title holder or a relative of a Duke title holder (and higher ranks) can immediately demand a Crown Protector rank in the Regalian Guard. The Landesgericht Inspector has no choice but to accept these demands at all times, unless an ongoing criminal investigation is lodged against someone. The Crown Protectors don't have any authority over the Guards, at least officially. They have all the same rights as a guard, meaning they can arrest individuals who break the law, but they cannot specifically issue new commands to guards. Rather, they can take charge of a guard situation. For example, if a patrol is occurring, a Crown Protector may forcibly join this patrol, and effectively lead the patrol to where they think it should go. Alternatively, they can join an ongoing search warrant, and take over command of the to be searched premise if the Inspector is absent. Crown Protectors can however become subject to the Inspector issuing a Court Martial against them for abuse of privilige and power. A very specific armor set will be issued to the Crown Protectors.

OOC Notes

  • When one is a Guard or Crown Protector, and has an alternative character which is a criminal, the guard character will be forcibly ejected from the Guard force for conflicts of interest.
  • A specific set of Minecraft Armor is issued to regular Bluesteel Guards. Crown Protectors however will have a specific unique set of armor skinned for them, meaning they should endeavor to wear this skin when they are on duty. Using MPM to adjust the skin is not permitted, it has to be visible to everyone. This skin will feature heavy armor, but will have a single sash around the waist which can be customized to family colors or personal preferences.
  • All Guards need to be approved by the Inspector. Even the Crown Protectors (when they want to join the Guard) must go through the Inspector even though their OOC approval is not necessary. This must happen, because every guard's existence must be recorded and they must be added to the Skype chat.
  • In order to apply to become a Regalian Guard, the first step is to identify Character Compatibility. A Character must be educated in a Military School (meaning, they must have acquired a ranking higher Student in any of these Combat Schools), though must be able to proficiently wield a blade as this is the standard equipment of the Guards. Once this is done, a Character should be assigned to one of the Curia Militum Marks. When this is done, a message should be sent either by the Inspector or the person who owns the Character wishing to become a guard to the leader Lieutenant-General if there is one for the specific Mark they have joined. At that point, all preparations have been completed, and the character may be approved and induced into the Regalian Guard by approval of the Inspector.
  • In order to apply to become a Crown Protector, contact the Landesgericht Inspector OOC'ly to inform them of your wish. You will then be added to the relevant communication lines and the person portraying the Landesgericht Inspector will give you a link to the relevant skin to use when on-duty.

Trivia

  • While the Regalian Violet Order has been through numerous reforms, this current system is actually an old call back to the beginning of Alexander the First's rule.
  • The Military fully expects incompetent nobility to start filling the ranks of the City Guard, much to the dismay of the common Guards who are actually competent and trained.
  • Even though in theory the Lieutenant-General of the Kaisermark should have authority over the guard as military forces within their jurisdiction, however they don't.
