The Rokha is a winged titan, stalking the plains of Daendroc below it from the skies with keen vision, and painting the lands red with precise dives and strikes from the deadly claws mounted on its feet. The Rokha has for centuries inspired terror into the hearts of the people who lived near the mountains of Daendroc, inhabiting the northwestern regions of the Zuimobragan Peninsula. These enormous predatory birds have been a plague on the Altalar cities built into the mountainsides for millennia, and the Elves best efforts to eradicate the bird has severely decreased their numbers. To this day, its feathers and claws are prized trinkets among the Elven population, and the Daen humans as well.
Much like its aerial sibling, the Hoton Longfeather, the Rokha is a titan of the air, native to lands long inhabited by Elven Races. However, where the Hoton Longfeather became a fringe animal largely ignored by the histories of the Allorn Empire, save for tales of its unique feathers, the Rokha kept a constant presence in the mind of the Teledden-ruled nation given its aggressive tendencies. Its name became tied to power, strength, and later fear, as the proto-Kathar emerged. While the bird is considered by some to be extinct since the Cataclysm, scattered reports suggest their continued existence in isolated pockets across Aloria, with their spotless feathers highly sought after by hunters.

History
No one exactly knows how long this gargantuous killer has stalked the mountain valleys, but some scholars theorize that they lived there even before the emergence of the Elven Empire and have since then been a lurking threat to every wanderer and cattle herder in the vicinity of a Rokha nest. When Elven kingdoms and fiefdoms first started emerging in Daendroc, the Rokha in the area took it as a serious violation of their territory, frequently striking down on the cities, taking everything from children to fully grown guardsmen up in its claws. Not many years passed before the Altalar had adapted, using their precise vision and excellent bowmanship to repel and kill the attacking Rokha.
While tales of giant birds thriving in the air above the Teledden were once solely attributed to the Hoton Longfeather, some believe that early Elven record keepers could not easily tell the birds apart, leading to confusion on just when the two birds were truly told apart. Most believe this issue was solved soon after the death of Empress Talea when the expansion of Allorn Empire brought them into contact with the Rokha. Whereas the Hoton Longfeather’s history grew less relevant to the Teledden, the Rokha’s became moreso. Over time, terms of power and importance in the Allorn Altalar tongue came to include “Rokh” as derived from the animal’s name, and it is little wonder. Unlike the Hoton, whose mountainous dwellings often kept them high above, out of contact with the Elves, Rokha constantly preyed on, attacked, and threatened Teledden in and around their mountainous nests. They were nocturnal despite their white plumage and sought out both beasts and sentient Races to sate what was often described as an “unspeakable want” in terms of a meal. They were also much harder to dislodge because of their strange habit of nesting in caves and other dark crannies out of easy sight, emerging only at night, and resting in the day.

Years and years passed, the Rokha drawing further into the mountains, seeking peace from the Altalar cities, and soon was so rare a sight that they became something of a myth to the Elven populations. One particular Elven Emperor had a strong obsession with the birds, erecting many statues and depicting the creature in folly all over their palaces and holds. It is said that the Emperor himself wore a suit of armor, constructed from Rokha bones which are both durable and lighter than steel. To this day, decorations and statuettes of the Rokha can still be found scattered all across the northern Elven territories. The Rokha themselves have scattered further away from the sentient races in search of solace to continue their existence.
For all of this, they were well respected among the Teledden, especially among certain cults of Allorn society as the Empire began to break down following the Cataclysm. Those associated with the Void in particular respected the Rokha, but there was a sudden change around 500 BC. For some reason, the future Kathar of Aloria came to outright fear the Rokha and began to aggressively hunt them, while also tearing down statues and iconography previously built in the name of the animal’s greatness. Many suspect that this turn on the animal was due to possible connections with the bird’s origins as an Exist creation, but other reports suggest a slightly more bizarre truth. Unsubstantiated rumors claim a series of Rohka encounters with proto-Kathar Void cultists saw the animals speak and divulge secrets while also speaking dark truths beyond what should have been their capacity to know. Most view these tales as overblown, merely twisting sacrifices of the bird to the Void and communion that followed into one. Regardless, in the hunt that followed, what Rokha had made it to Altaleï were largely culled while those in Sileria suffered. Void-aligned Teledden even undertook dangerous missions into Suvial territory to purge them of their limited Rokha presence, much to the anger of the insular Suvial. In wider Sileria though, the attempts to hunt the Rokha were stopped by the [Raav]], a Race native to the region who revered the giant birds, and had a symbiotic relationship with them.

Following the Cataclysm and the official birth of the Kathar, there are many confusing claims about the ultimate fate of the Rokha. Some believe they have gone extinct, killed in the Kathar's war with the Raav that rendered that Race extinct, with the surviving titan birds hunted to a similar point of extinction by the zealous Kathar. But, others say that the grey-skinned Race stopped this practice as the animals died out naturally or were corrupted by the Void into valuable warbeasts. Yet more rumors say that the Rokha are somehow untouched by the Void corruption that surrounds them, and they continue their hunting of all who would make a useful meal to this day. But this rumor is just that--a rumor--with no validated truth, but there were at one point a number of Rokha who were recovering well in population within northern Sileria. This was before the Void-outs ruined this region’s capacity to sustain largescale animal life, however, and what few Rokha remained appear to have died off. Ultimately, the status of the Rokha remains unknown, though it is officially considered a rare creature by the wider world, with hope resting on its survival within the vast, wild realm of the Dread Empire.

Physical Appearance
Physical Appearance
The Rokha appears quite similar to any other bird of prey, except scaled up many times. Its total wingspan reaches up to six meters and weighs about as much as a grown man. Its feet are bright yellow and each carry four toes, two at the front and two at the back, each mounted with a deadly one foot claw. The Rokha's feathers come in shades of brown and black, with their bellies usually taking on a lighter shade, such as grey or white. Its beak is also bright yellow and above each of the eagle’s golden slitted eyes are a long black feather, curving upwards like a sinister eyebrow or a set of horns. Most of the bird’s weight and muscle resides in its wings, being able to maneuver its powerful body with stunning precision and agility, often diving at tremendous speed from the skies, striking unsuspecting prey with a hit that is almost sure to break every bone in their body, followed by a set if deadly claws cutting the prey apart. But perhaps most impressive of all is the Rokha’s eyesight, being able to tell a mouse apart from a plain at three miles of altitude, assuming that there are no clouds. When on the ground, their wings will bend forward, allowing the Rokha to support some of its weight on two clawed fingers that extend about halfway out on each wing. These can also be used to latch onto mountain sides and climb trees but are rarely used as a weapon.
The Rokha’s appearance is a bit more supernatural than many would imagine, possessing features that mark them out as unique among other predatory birds. Their most obvious feature is their size, reaching some eight feet long with a wingspan of sixteen feet. The Rokha’s face is that of a predatory bird, with a narrow, downward pointed beak. However, this is where the more normal features end. They possess a pair of large silver, green or blue eyes while the edges of their face possess a cresting of feathers similar, in some ways, to a mane on a more terrestrial animal. Their beak is also the strange color of white, a rarity for most bird species, and possesses a flawlessly smooth surface, clear of all irregular bumpage. Their necks are notably longer than that of most other predators, reaching around two solid feet and it appears to be retractable, with several layers of fat and skin much like some species of turtle. This “accordion neck” attaches to the Rokha’s athletic avian form and its two wings. These are capable of great feats of aerial adjustment and are notable for how the tips of their wing feathers appear to “waver” and appear cloudlike rather than solid. Their body ends in a short fan of feathers, and is supported on a pair of silvery scaled feet, with white claws. Similar scales also exist at the metacarpus of the bird’s wings. The feathers that coat the Rokha are a uniform pure white, and rarely stay dirty for long.

Diversity
Males and females appear similar overall with a few exceptions. The male often appears to be of a stronger and more packed build, while the female carries elegant and agile proportions. The males tend to be slightly darker in colours as well, but this is not always the case. The surest way of telling the males and females apart is by the feather on the forehead of the male Rokha. In the spot where the upper beak connects with the feathered head stands a long crimson feather that curves over its head like the plume on a knight’s helmet.
Rokha broadly lack diversity between males and females, but their gender population has been noted to skew toward males resulting in fewer females. No regional differences have not been noted between Rokha existing across their territorial spread.

Life Span and Development
Life Span and Development
Many records exist of deadly disputes between multiple Rokha, however this was rarely the case. The Rokha have a mating ritual involving a deadly airborne chase where the female, using her more agile and faster build, will put the male’s strength and willpower on trial. If the male succeeds in capturing the female, he will dig his claws into the female who will then go limp, leaving the male to carry both of their weights with his more powerful wings. Once a male and a female have bred, they will stay together for the entire nesting period, building up a home of branches and bones and taking turns at collecting food and guarding a single egg. The egg incubates for approximately five months before the hatchling draws its first breath, and will then continue to grow for the next month where, if it has been fed properly, it will be strong enough to survive on its own until it reaches adulthood. The parents will then leave the nest, flying their separate ways. It is rare that a Rokha has more than three eggs in their lifetime, often dying after their second nesting period due to the physical strain their aging body would have been exposed to. A Rokha lives approximately 20 years, excluding the incubation period.
Details on the reproduction of the Rokha are very lacking, as the animals roost in caves and keep their nests in the dark and out of easy sight. However, it is known that Rokha lay clutches of between one and three white eggs with pale blue and golden speckles at the top within their cave nests. When the Rokha emerges, they are covered in a dense pale grey down which rapidly matures into pure white, clean feathers. However, their bodies take many years to mature out of adolescence. Most records claim that Rokha hatchlings become youths at around ten to fifteen years of age, the event marked by their first solo flight, but also their necks being capable of proper expansion and contraction. It takes a further five or so years for them to become full adults. From this point onward, Rokha will have an incredibly long life if allowed to live it, some tales putting Rokha as old as 250 years old. Most conventional scholars of biology, however, state the bird can live anywhere between 100 and 200 years old based on a variety of factors.

Mental Overview
Being an apex predator, the Rokha is inherently hostile to anything but other Rokha. The majority of species alive today is fair game to this beast, it has even been recorded to be seen snapping at bothersome flies disturbing its sleep. It is theorized that the reason for the Rokha being so tolerant of one another is due to their low population, which would surely not endure if they hunted each other as well. The Rokha isn’t particularly intelligent beyond its hunting strategies which mostly lie in instinct. Like most other birds, it is easily distracted, and Wolathar nomads in the mountainous regions have developed various methods of getting past a Rokha nest, usually involving a round grass ball dipped in tree sap to make it sticky. Once the ball is stuck on the Rokha, it will be solely focused on removing it as quickly as possible. A particularly curious trait of the Rokha is its sense of vanity. They spend up to several hours a day cleaning their feathers to look their most appealing to other Rokha. Sometimes they are found rolling in patches of flowers to smell better as well.

Territory and Groupings
Apart from the occasional nesting periods where a male and a female will join forces, the Rokha are mostly solitary, stalking the skies in search of prey and mating partners. Female Rokha tend to settle in a certain area, ruling over several hunting grounds that, if tread upon, will be met with immediate hostility. Males are not as territorial, but usually has a special pattern that it follows when travelling, always using the same resting spots as it did the first time it took a special route. Their movements are often very well-planned and coordinated beforehand, but they can actually get lost if they stray too far from their usual path.
Rokha exist in small flocks of between two to seven members, often with one or two females presiding over a group of males. When their offspring are born, they are allowed to mature but are then ejected from the group upon adulthood. Most are then independent, flying off to form their own nest somewhere in the world. The animal nests within mountain caves, with the nests themselves filled with debris of fabric to greenery to bones, providing useful cushioning for when the birds sleep. As for the territory the Rokha claims, it can be anywhere between thirty and fifty square miles, though some particularly large Rokha have been known to claim up to 100 miles.
