The Sendrassian Long Maw Saurian is a relentless predator, dominating the deeper parts of the continent of Sendras. Infamous for being one of the largest and strongest predators on Aloria, this enormous creature has had fairly great impact on the Mu-Allar culture and lifestyle. A frightening and savage beast, the Sendrassian Long Maw’s presence is largely unknown to most races and the outside world as a whole. In addition its body parts, such as its scales and bones, are highly sought after as alchemical components for the Al-Allar.

History

The Sendrassian Long Maw Saurian is one of the most ancient creatures on Sendras. Having existed in deep, thick jungles, the reptile was hidden away from sentient races for thousands of years to develop. Despite their seclusion, their population has always remained small, as the larger males were drawn into territorial fights and lost their lives or suffered fatal injuries. The Sendrassian Long Maw never truly suffered a population decline however, as they still had moderate breeding availability and no natural predator to threaten their existence. The Al-Allar, while recognizing the creature could give them useful alchemical components, were poor hunters and rarely, if ever, brought down a Long Maw.

It wasn’t until after the Cataclysm and the Opening that the initial decline of the species began. The newly born Mu-Allar quickly learned of the Sendrassian Long Maw as a great threat to their society, and developed efficient hunting tactics to play against them. After a few decades, the reptilian beasts actually became game for the most elite of Mu-Allar hunters. The predators have since draw further inland, seeking refuge from this new bothersome species. Over the years, however, the techniques and hunting strategies have faded along with the Saurians, and are only preserved in the most elite hunting clans that still venture to the deeper parts of the Jungle. Their claws and spikes have become rare trophies to the Mu-Allar, and remain valuable alchemical ingredients to the Al-Allar.

Physical Appearance

The Sendrassian Long Maw Saurian can grow to become over 60 feet in length, 8 feet in height, and could weigh over 20 tonnes, making it the largest natural predator on Sendras. The Sendrassian Long Maw’s skull extends up to 6 feet, and features long tusks on the bottom row of its teeth. These are used to reach the vulnerable stomachs of other Sendrassian Long Maws.

The beasts feature large, slitted eyes with irises colored orange or deep red. This allows them to sense infrared, not unlike various breeds of snakes. Their tough, plate-like scales come in either green, brown, or black versions, often composed in stripes or spots. Males possess vibrant feathers along their backs and necks. These feathers can vibrate to create different frequencies of sound which they use to communicate with each other or mimic the calls of other animals. With proper experience in stalking humans, a Sendrassian Long Maw Saurian could replicate the sound of a yelling man or a screaming woman.

One of the most iconic traits of the Saurian are the four to five spikes protruding from its back that can reach up to 5 feet in length. It can assume a quadrupedal stance, bending its back so the spikes face forward to provide a defensive stance, while its spikes function as an effective spear wall to defend against prey or other Sendrassian Long Maws. Longer spikes also tend to lure in females.

Diversity

Variety between the Sendrassian Long Maw Saurians in terms of gender is fairly obvious. The males are around 3 feet longer, and they possess vibrant feathers along their back and necks. These feathers can be vibrated at different frequencies to communicate with other Long Maws. The feathers feature colors of purple, red, and blue, but never combinations of these.

Life Span and Development

The Sendrassian Long Maw Saurian is hatched from an egg roughly the size of a football and live for around 45 years, during which they grow continuously. From birth to juvenile stages they grow at an incredibly quick pace, tripling their birth size by their first months. After the growing has begun to slow to allow their musculature and bone structures to adapt to their growing size. At around 5 years of age all of their spikes and tusks are in place. Female Sendrassian Long Maw Saurians lay up to 2 eggs at a time, and up to 20 eggs in their lifespan. The hatchlings incubate for five months, during which both parents protect the nest.

Mental Overview

The Sendrassian Long Maw are apex predators that can never hope to be domesticated by natural means. They possess keen smell and infrared eyesight to aid them in hunting prey. They are naturally hostile to all life that threatens them, especially other Sendrassian Long Maw Saurians. While the beasts have a remarkable intellect, their intelligence revolves solely around combat and hunting These vicious hunters crouch in the underbrush and lure their prey in close by mimicking the calls of other species. Once their target is close enough, they boost off the ground with their powerful hind legs and using their arms for balance. The reptile will almost always go for the stomach area first. They are, however, not very proficient when it comes to adapting to new threats, since most of their tactics are created after decades of hunting the same creatures. A trait which became their fall to the more intelligent Mu-Allar.

Territory and Groupings

Found only in the deeper parts of Sendras, the Sendrassian Long Maw Saurians are strictly solitary, with the exception of the mating seasons where the male and female stick together and protect the nest. Sendrassian Long Maw Saurians are also very territorial. They possess keen senses and so their territory rarely ever expands out of the reach of these senses, being approximately 300 meters. Females are much less territorial however, and males generally let them wander around their lands freely.

Trivia

  • Some Mu-Allar mythology involves an immortal Mu-Allar hunter who rides a Sendrassian Long Maw around in the jungles of Sendras. It is not uncommon to find imagery and trinkets featuring this mysterious figure in the Mu-Allar camps, more oftenly in those occupied by hunting tribes.
