The book is a small, thin manuscript bound in leather with a small cord to tie it closed in the front. The words The Holy City have been burned into the front cover in neat handwriting, and underneath it, "A collection of poetry regarding the Holy City of Regalia, by Thomas Worth."
Pretext
I find myself a connoisseur of good poetry and prose wherever I go. Yet, it seems no matter where I look, I cannot find a single poetry book devoted solely to the City of Light and her divine Emperors. In an effort to change this, I have compiled six of my favorite poems that truly show my appreciation for Regalia and its isles. I now present these to you, my good reader, to take in as you please.
The Holy City
Sight of the City
- By Ferdinand Schwartz
- I climbed atop the boat that night,
- Making my search once more.
- I lked around, both left and right,
- Little did I see, standing on that deck,
- But barren wasteland, split apart by seas.
- My dreams were not to be found on this trek,
- And my fears were not set at ease.
- Huzzah! Huzzah!
- I see its glory, distant as a star.
- It twinkles, yes! It shines so bright!
- Free from those foul Dakkar.
- Once I was plagued, but this place is right.
- I shall escape, escape I shall,
- To a land of glory and honour.
- Of my life, this shall be the locale.
- True Humanity under one banner.
- Regalia is what sits so primal
- To the existence I've come to love.
- The Holy City, true and rightful,
- Here once lived those Gods above.
Divine Ascension
- By Ferdinand Schwartz
- The Divine Emperor has reached his throne!
- Each day, to Him, I lend my praise.
- My heart is His, none kept as my own.
- My contempt goes out to those that bemoan,
- And are not grateful for his merciful ways.
- The Divine Emperor has reached his throne!
- His death brought grief, but I do not groan,
- For he was in the Eye, before the post chaise.
- My heart is his, none kept as my own.
- He is mighty, his glory has been shown.
- Some, though not myself, are blase.
- The Divine Emperor has reached his throne!
- It saddens me that to some it goes unbeknown,
- to others, their hearts are not ablaze.
- My heart is His, none kept as my own.
- For me, the seeds of passion already are sown,
- and my heart is burning with a powerful blaze.
- The Divine Emperor has reached his throne!
- My heart is His, none kept as my own.
Holy Night
- By Gertrude Herrmann
- As a setting sun, left a cool night
- Creatures with fangs emerge
- Guards on duty prepared to smite
- Ready to begin a bloody purge
- All escapes are blocked
- Blood suckers had no way out
- Standing there as they mocked
- Their heads not yet filled with doubt
- Red eyes stared arrogantly
- Guards grinned amused by this
- As the the Nobles watch elegantly
- Listening for that filthy hiss
- Blood shot through the air
- As guards fought loudly
- Fangs were bared with a snare
- While evil suffered profoundly
- Faces stained with crimson red
- A battle continued boldly
- More with fangs will soon be dead
- Regalia remains forever holy
Regalia
- By Gerda Mannifred
- Welcome, my fellow creatures,
- as we gather here from word of our preachers.
- Scaled, feathered, and skinned alike,
- let me tell you about the city of light;
- It is indeed bright and wealth.
- Let me say, even when I was but a welp,
- I hardly even knew about what blessings had arisen!
- Ports of gold,
- and jewels of old,
- I spot all those at the docks!
- A place of safety, guards and all,
- a place where trees grow oh-so tall,
- and all of the bad go into locks!
- Worry not, the drunken ones,
- for a tavern filled to the brim, that's right!
- Even when evil or Vamps come with blight,
- the Guards leave mercy in amounts of none.
- Welcome, all my fellow creatures,
- as we gather here from action of our preachers!
- Scaled, feathered, and skinned alike,
- such is the tale of the city of light.
City of Light
- By Adam Hoffman
- One warm summer's eve I did fancy
- Of a land far in expanse
- No troubles nor evil
- Nor a vampire in sight
- But then what I looked around and saw.
- Reminded me of the beauty that is Regalia
Ode to Regalia
- By Rosalie White
- On board a ship,
- It seems like forever.
- The journey to this land
- Was quite the endeavor.
- Finally, they step on docks
- Breathing in the air.
- They take in all the commoners,
- The nobles, and their flare.
- Such a change from their old life
- Surrounded by nature, birds, and bees,
- Who would've thought
- They'd ever leave the safety of their tree?
- At first, the change is frightening,
- No family or friends,
- But after many days and nights
- They melt into the blend.
- Too soon, vacation comes to an end.
- This one really did entertain.
- So to Regalia, they say a hearty 'Farewell!'
- And hope to come once again.
