The '''Human Race''' (Serafin Humin) is an averagely sized humanoid species distributed across much of Aloria. The Human Race has in recent times become the most numerous race on the surface of Aloria, spanning large Empires and states in every corner of the world. The Human Race is also one of the most cultured races, having a wide range of sub races and even larger numbers of cultures. Humans are generally considered the "average" race of Aloria, meaning their properties and traits act as a measurement because of how average they are when compared to other races. Humans from a cultural perspective have also become the most prominent race on Aloria, therefor shifting the scientific analysis from an Elven perspective to a Human one. While Humans are also the most numerous race on Aloria, they are also the most prone to conflict of all races, having a natural proneness to warfare and violent resolutions to conflicts. Racism among Humans has especially become strong as of late because of their largest single body state: The Regalian Empire.

Naming and etymology

The Human race is sometimes referred to as Serafin Humin, from proto Seraph language. The exact origin of the word Human is unknown to scholars of the modern era, however there are signs that the term predates even the Elven Empire. Orcs for example referred to Humans as "Humies" before the Humans even introduced themselves upon their first encounter. It is generally assumed that Humans as a species existed in the Meraic Empire's era, but were nothing more than tribal barbarians. This means in turn that the term Human could be a derogatory term created by the Meraic civilization, however the term was used so often that nobody in present time considers even changing it. Elves refer to Humans as Firyin. Firyin means lesser being in Talar Elven, a term that Elves often use to insult Humans despite the fact that the historical scales have been tilted in favor of the Humans. Every other race refers to Humans as exactly that, though different pronunciation varieties are made. Urs for example refer to Humans as Oomans, Mekett refer to them as H'mzans. The only race to have recently changed their terminology is the Naga. Before the Chrysant Wars, Naga called Humans by that name, however after the disastrous war, they refer to Humans as "The Scourge".

Taxonomy and evolution

Humans are generally considered to have appeared on the continent of Ceardia roughly 5000 years Before Cataclysm. Remains have been found of typical human stone tools and Old Gods worship statuettes that point to a tribal way of living that lasted for several thousands of years. This had led many scholars to conclude that Humans existed during the times of the Elven Empire, the Meraic civilization, and some claim even the unnamed civilization before the Meraic. Humans have only in the past 1000 years started leaving the Ceardian continent. Elves were the largest factor of this spreading across Aloria, as soon as the Elven Empire had reached it's zenith, it started mass enslaving Humans to cater to it's servant shortages due to low reproduction cycles of Tigrans. Humans were thus captured in Ceardia and spread all over the world to Elven outposts, where the rapid reproduction cycle and aging cycle of Humans meant they quickly overtook even Elven populations as slaves across Farahdeen, the Regalian Archipelago, Etosil and more.

Subspecies

Humans are home to several subspecies that have distinctly evolved from their species line. These subspecies can usually be found localized to specific continents, but in recent times have started moving around and even interbreeding with each other to create hybrids or mudbloods as they are referred to by Ailor Humans.

Subspecies name Image Distribution Description/Comments
Ailor Humans File:Missing.jpg Originated from Ceardia, spread out over every conceivable continent in Aloria. Most populated in the Regalian Archipelago A very wildly varying subspecies of Humans, Ailor Humans are generally considered the most numerous Human sub species, the most aggressive one, and the most prosperous one. Ailor Humans are usually recognized by their bright to medium dark skin tones and wildly varying hair and eye colors.
Qadir Humans File:Missing.jpg Originated from Farahdeen, and mostly concentrated on said continent. Has however been venturing outwards more recently. Qadir are a very homogeneous sub species of Humans, meaning they are very similar to one another. Most Qadir either have a very dark skin tone, or a medium dark one. Nearly all Qadir have golden irises and white hair, a genetically strong trait from their Seraph ancestors.
Ch'ien-Ji Humans File:Missing.jpg Originated from the Yangtzu Isles, and mostly concentrated on said continent. Has however been venturing outwards more recently. Ch'ien-Ji Humans are the smallest sub species of Humans, which also all have black hair and golden irises. Ch'ien-ji Humans are the most magically able sub species of Humans, distinguishing themselves at a young age in a wide variety of magical forms.
Wulong Humans File:Missing.jpg Originated from the Yangtzu Isles, and mostly concentrated on said continent. Has however been venturing outwards more recently. Wulong Humans look radically different from Ailor Humans, however they are considered a Human sub species due to a common ancestor. Wulong are the hairiest sub species of Humans, and also the largest and the most aggressive.

Hybrids

Several recognized Hybrids between Humans and non Humans exist and are even quite prominent.

  • Half Qadir Half Ailor are not very prominent, but do exist. They can usually be recognized by having black hair, dark skin and golden eyes. Half Qadir are generally considered heretics in their own culture, and dirty to Ailor.
  • Half Ailor Half Ch'ien-ji are even less prominent. They are usually recognizable due to having very Ch'ien'ji like traits, but not having the slitted eyes or the yellowish skin tone.
  • Half Ailor Half Elf are very numerous. They are usually recognizable due to their relatively taller height and slightly pointy ears. These hybrids are shunned by both races, as they are associated with slave children.
  • Half Ailor Half Orc exist, but are usually very tragic. If born from a Human mother, the mother likely died in childbirth. If born from an Orc mother, the pair would have likely been ostracized from Orc society.

Physical description

Body size

Humans averagely are between 5 and 7 feet tall. In the lower end of this range are usually the Ch'ien-ji who usually don't grow taller than 5 feet and 5 inches. In the upper end of this range are the Qadir and Wulong, who usually grow between 6 feet and 7 feet. Everywhere in between can be the Ailor Humans who are a distinct average. The body strength of the Ch'ien-ji is also considerably less than that of the Ailor, who in turn are physically weaker than the Wulong while almost on equal terms with the Qadir. Humans unlike other races have the ability to grow or degrade muscle mass to extreme proportions, meaning many Humans can look radically different from one another.

Genetic traits

Ailor Humans are genetically diverse. There are many different hair colors and eye colors within the Human genepool, though the Qadir, Wulong and Ch'ien-ji are fairly similar to one another. Ailors can have wildly different hair colors ranging from black to red, blonde, brown and in some cases even white. White hair is seen as a genetic defect, but also seems to be accompanied with heightened sensitivity to Magic.

Reproduction

Humans reproduce at a fairly fast rate compared to other races. Humans are able to give birth to an infant within 9 months of fertilization, and in most cases can re-fertilize immediately upon giving birth. Infant mortality rates are extremely low among Humans (with the exception of noble Ailor families), meaning the overall population growth of Humans is booming. Humans reproduce through intercourse where a male inseminates a female, after which the female will carry the infant for the 9 month period.

Longevity

Humans have a wildly differing age limit. Ch'ien-ji are generally on the high end by living up to 150 in some rare cases, while Qadir and Ailor live up to the average of 80. Wulong, even under ideal conditions, cannot be expected to live beyond their 40th year. Human age is however usually cut short by warfare, malnutrition or disease. Due to the populations of Humans and the relatively uselessness of Human elders, most Humans do not grow particularly old.

Distribution and habitat

Humans are distributed across all known continents on Aloria. The strongest concentrations of Humans are found in the Regalian Archipelago, New Ceardia, Daendroque, Farahdeen and the Yangtze Isles. By far however, the most humans live on the Regalian Archipelago, counting several million condensed on a few islands. Humans usually live in stone constructed structures. Architecture is a highly praised occupation and art in Human culture, leading to wildly varying habitats. Wulong however still live in wooden huts or caves, sticking mostly to the old ways other Human species also used to live thousands of years back.

Behavior and culture

Dietary habits

Humans are universally omnivores, meaning they eat a wide range of foods. Most Ailor have a healthy diet consisting of fish, bread, fruits, meat and fine drinks such as wines and liquors. Qadir eat a large variety of fruits and hard breads. In some minor cases, rice and fish is also consumed, but Qadir do not eat pork meat. Ch'ien-ji are more on the vegetarian side of the dietary spectrum, favoring rice and fruit products, but they do also eat poultry and fish. Wulong mostly eat raw unprocessed foods such as wild fruits and raw fish.

Inter species relationships

Humans are generally considered the most racist species on Aloria, having an innate distaste for any other race in existence. The very founding of the religions of Humans, Old Gods and Unionism, embody this racism by preaching that Humans have a divine purpose on Aloria to rule all the lesser races and herald a never ending era of Human dominance. This racism is especially strong in the Empire of Regalia where only Humans are first rank citizens.

Cultures

asdf can't be bothered to write right now.

Forms of governance

Humans have a large variety of different government forms, more so than any other race. To name a list of the most popular ones:

  • Imperial governances (Empires)
  • Royal governance (Kingdoms, Principalities)
  • Merchant Republics
  • Governates (Royal viceroys)
  • Tribal Chiefdoms
  • Federal Unions
  • Theist States (Bishoprics and Holy States)

Humans overall prefer a stable and centralized form of governance, staying away from anarchy and democracy in many cases. Landed and wealthy elites are high up in nearly every form of governance, giving Human culture a strong trend towards Oligarchy.
