"Can we call speculating over unreleased content Schrodinger's Tangerine" - Okadoka 4/20/21

Keep in mind, content on this page will shift and change.

Under each ////, I've left shortened, rewritten versions of the description text, without erasing the originals. The goal is brevity and saying nothing that does not need to be said. If you are satisfied with these implementations, please wipe the old paragraphs. Consider also my name changes, Point Buy to Skill Buy (because Points are gone), and Charisma to Presence (to get rid of Charisma's connotations). - Oka

The Proficiency System is a comprehensive system that regulates Character Stats and Skills in a fair and balanced manner. The system takes a lot of inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons, but may also be familiar to those who have played the Elder Scrolls Oblivion, or any such Games. The system should be fairly simple and straightforward, but if you are experiencing any issues, or would like it explained in a more personal manner, please ask for help on our Roleplay Community Discord. Fellow Players and Staff are always willing to help out. The Proficiency has two steps, Point Allocation, and Point Buying. Most beginning players only need to go through the first step, which would give a Character a basic Stat allocation of Proficiencies. This is often good enough for Roleplay, because it provides a basic structure on how to measure your Character to other Characters on the server. If however you want to deepen your experience and immersion, you can try the second step of Point Buying, where you spend the points assigned in the first step to buy Packs of Abilities that do things in Roleplay. In summary: The Proficiency System allows players to spend a pool of points on Stats, and when done, use those Stats to buy Abilities and Specials.

The Test System is how we regulate Characters' skills. It is inspired by DnD, but also by RPGs, Elder Scrolls for example. If you are having trouble understanding or want a personal explanation, please ask for help in our Roleplay Community Discord. Both Players and Staff are always willing to help out. There are two parts to the system, Proficiency and Point Buy. Proficiency, a simple way to allocate stats to your Character, is mandatory. Skill Buy, a more comprehensive ability system, is optional.

Point Allocation

Proficiencies

There is a total of six proficiencies, each which have their own function in the context of Roleplay:

  • Strength dictates how strong your Character is, or how much combat experience your Character has.
  • Constitution dictates how healthy your Character is, their fitness and physical endurance and the like.
  • Wisdom dictates how much knowledge your Character has about the world, and particular occupations.
  • Dexterity dictates your Character's agility and how dexterous they are with their hands and feet.
  • Magic dictates your Character's Arcane Knowledge and application, essentially a gateway to Magic.
  • Creativity dictates your Character's creative exploration and hobby and cultural development.
  • Charisma dictates your Character's expressions and general presence among equals.

Proficiencies have value on their own, even independent of Skill Buy. They are meaningful ratings.

There are a total of six proficiencies:

  • Strength dictates your Character's strength, or combat experience.
  • Constitution dictates your Character's health, fitness, and physical endurance.
  • Wisdom dictates your Character's knowledge about the world, or technical skills.
  • Dexterity dictates your Character's agility and general sleight of hand.
  • Magic dictates your Character's ability to use and understand Magic.
  • Creativity dictates your Character's skill with the arts and hobby work.
  • Presence dictates your Character's leadership and experience with higher office.

Allocation Rules

There are two short allocation rules that dictate how many points you can spend, and when to max out:

  • Every Character regardless of age or Race has exactly 14 points to spend between the above Proficiencies.
  • Every Proficiency can only have up to 7 points invested in any of them. But you can spend in as many as you like.

Points on Character App

Create a Character App to finalize your selection. Below is an example of how to write your Point spread:

Proficiency Points
Strength: 6
Constitution: 0
Wisdom: 5
Dexterity: 1
Magic: 0
Creativity: 2
Charisma: 0

That's all! You can start Roleplaying now. If you want to expand your immersion and experience however, you can try out Point Buying, but you can also decide on this later, there is no rush!

That's all! You can start Roleplaying now. If you want to expand on your Character's abilities, take a look at Skill Buy. There's no rush.

Point Buying

To know where you can spend your points, you simply have to look at your own spread. Did you assign 6 Points to Strength? That means you can buy 6 Packs that are in the Strength category. Did you assign 0 points in Constitution? Then you can buy none of the Constitution Packs. 2 Points in the Magic category yield two Magic Packs and so forth. Below you can find links to each of the Point buy Categories. It is recommended you browse these pages a bit or ask other players what they think are good investments that provide a lot of fun in Roleplay. Obviously some packs are more useful, while others remain rather niche, but they are overall all designed to have at least some use in Roleplay.

////

Skill Buy is based on a Character's stats. They can have as many Skill Buy Packs from a stat as they have points in it. For example, a 6 Strength Character can buy 6 Packs from the Strength category, a 0 Constitution Character cannot buy any Packs from the Constitution category, and a 2 Magic Character can buy 2 Packs from the Magic category. Below are links to each of the Categories. All packs have uses in Roleplay, although some are more useful than others.
