Handorien III

Handorien III was a brother of Emperor Handorien II, and the uncle of Justinian I. His disappearance is what truly began the Seasonal Emperors period, as the throne passed to his brother, rather than his son the Crown Prince. Handorien actually appeared to be a promising Emperor initially, as he was very much against the actions of his brother that caused the Purple Bleeding. However, he disappeared shortly into his third reign under mysterious circumstances, which also led to the executions of the Imperial Guards who last saw the Emperor.
Ottomar
- Reigning Years: 227-231 AC
- Culture: Ithanian
Ottomar was Handorien III's brother, which also makes him a brother of Handorien II, and uncle of Justinian I. Ottomar was the first Ivrae Emperor to break the traditional line of succession, as his nephew, future Emperor Handorien IV, was considered the Crown Prince. However, the Morgannt chose to pass over the traditional succession line, as Ottomar was known to be far more agreeable to the Chancellor's desires than his brother. Ottomar's reign ended when he was mortally wounded during a hunting trip in Dragenthal.
Balthezar
- Reigning Years: 231-235 AC
- Culture: Ithanian
Balthezar was the son of Emperor Ottomar, and succeeded his father following the hunting accident. Balthezar was never expected to inherit the Imperial Throne, and his reign saw him mostly as a rubber stamp for the Morgannt's own agenda, being seeing as a yes-man to the Arch-Chancellor. Balthezar was forced to abdicate a few short years into his reign, after which the Chancellor claimed that he retreated to a Dogartan Cloister to live out the rest of his day-a claim which was never verified at the time.
Handorien IV
- Reigning Years: 235-240 AC
- Culture: Ithanian
Handorien IV was the son of Handorien III, and was the Crown Prince under his father's reign. Handorien III expected to inherit the throne after his father's disappearance, and was actively displeased that he was passed over in favor of his uncle Ottomar. While he attempted to investigate the intrigue within his court, these efforts failed due to the perceived incompetence of the Emperor's inquisitors-which later years would reveal were bribed by the Chancellor. Handorien IV would eventually grow tired of the plotting around him, and made plans to take a trip to Vixhall to enjoy the countryside air. However, like his father, the Emperor would not make it to his destination, ironically disappearing around the same hunting grounds that saw the death of Ottomar.
Handorien V
- Reigning Years: 240-244 AC
- Culture: Burdigala
Handorien V was a brother of Handorien IV, who was chosen to succeed his brother due to the Crown Prince, Vilgemar, being an infant at the time and deemed unsuitable to ascend to the throne during such a precarious time for the Ivrae Dynasty. Handorien was the first and only Burdigala Emperor, though it was an adoptive Culture as he was raised Ithanian. Handorien was an avid wine drinker, and was known to support the Morgannt's hedonistic parties at the Imperial Palace, often ignoring the scandals going at at court in exchange for a barrel of Burdigla wine. Despite being on good terms with the Morgannt, Handorien was a very hands-off Emperor who wouldn't even lift a pen to affirm the Chancellor's legislative changes-an action which made the Chancellor unable to push through his agenda as desired. As a result, Handorien V was convinced to abdicate the throne and retire to the Dragenthal countryside-though he never arrived at his destination.
Allestrain II
- Reigning Years: 244-249 AC

- Claim to Fame: Emperor during the Vultragon Schism
Allestrain II was the brother of Emperor Balthezar, as Handorien V had no children, and the Morgannt required an adult Emperor in order to give Imperial assent to the Chancellor's agenda. Allestrain's reign would be controversial-not because he was yet another puppet Emperor sitting on the throne-but because of his regnal name. Traditionally, Regalian Emperors would refrain from choosing a regnal name that was previous held by a God Emperor, as it was believed that the names now held a greater level of divinity. This is why there was never a Theomar II, Allamaria II, or Henri IV. However, the Emperor chose to ignore the two-century long tradition and stylized himself as Allestrain II. This decision ultimately led to the Vultragon Heresy to start questioning the legitimacy of the Emperors, an action which led to their violent expulsion from the Crown Isle to the south of the Regalian Archipelago around Vultaro. Despite the religious conflict, Allestrain II was firm in his decision, a stubbornness which proved to be unfavorable to the Chancellor, despite the Emperor signing off on his decrees. Eventually, Allestrain II disappeared from courtly life-much like his predecessor Handorien III.
Allestrain III
- Reigning Years: 249-255 AC
- Culture: Ithanian
Allestrain III was the son of Allestrain II, who like his father opted to use the regnal name of a former God Emperor. Like Ottomar, Allestrain II was very agreeable with the Morgannt, and most notably tripled the amount of palace entertainers during his short reign to rival the Chancellery-which at this time was known as Le Court de Soleil. Allestrain III was last seen on a pleasure ship heading towards Ithania, though the vessel disappeared before it could arrive at its destination. This prompted the Morgannt to declare the fun-loving son of Handorien IV as Emperor, who had just come of age.
