Technological Branches are part of the Proficiency System, but more specifically dependent/required for Artificer Point Buy (the more Magic/non-Mundane leaning) and Technician Point Buy (the more non-Magic/Mundane leaning). Each person who invests in either (or both) chooses one Style which they are able to produce and operate, some circumstances allow more than one Branch (for example, Qadir can make things from all Branches except the Limited Branches unless they fulfill the criteria). There are some additional rules to operating limitations:
- Biotics (for example chassis/prosthetics worn on the body) are not constrained by Branch choice, only for the Limited Branches. For example, an Ailor with the Technological Branch of Servotech, can still operate a Hallowtech arm prosthetic if applied by a different Engineer. They are however not able to operate Godsamtro without being Old Gods faithful, and if they lose their religion, the prosthetic falls limp.
- Hardware (for example washing machines, coffee presses, and medica stations) can be operated by anyone, even those who do not have any Technological Branches, or any Packs in Artificer or Technician. It is assumed that these devices come with normal operating buttons or manuals that make any john doe able to functionally use them what they were made for, unless such design limitations were made on purpose.
- Software (for example Mechs, Automata, Weapon/Armor Summon Tech) can only be operated by the maker with the appropriate Branch. Even if another person had the appropriate Branch, they would not be able to take the Mech or Automata of someone else, since they derive from specific Abilities and Abilities are always personal. In private roleplay however, it is possible to arrange exceptions to this.
- Maintenance is generally required for all technological things, for example rust, wear and tear, or just software malfunctions can happen in technology. There is no hard and fast rule for this, players are just encouraged to invent problems with their machinery to entice return-roleplay with the engineers who made them, or to modify existing functions for more rp use. Generally speaking only those with the Branch that the device that needs maintenance is made of, are able to perform maintenance on such devices.
Common Technological Branches
Common Technological Branches are Technology Branches (styles of doing engineering) that are commonly available to anyone. Even though some of these styles are very thematic and regional, there is nothing stopping any character from learning one of them. Any Race other than Qadir learns to work in only one style, while Qadir are able to work in all styles.
Limited Technological Branches
Limited Technological Branches are Technology Branches (styles of doing engineering) that are limited to certain Race or Religion limitations. Only those of the appropriate criteria are able to make and operate Technology from these specific Branches. While Qadir in theory have access to them as well, unless they fulfill the criteria, they cannot produce or operate them, only know how they are made and function.
Bidriqtech is a branch developed by the Suvial Altalar harnessing the fire within to create glass segments held together by fiery force. The criteria for Bidriqtech, is that a Character has to be Estelsoor Faithful, because it is fueled by the unquenchable fire of life of Avinla, and the other Gods.
Necrotech is a branch of Ordial essence infused technology, brought about by Ordial tech priests, fusing bone and dark energies. The criteria for Necrotech is that the Character is either an Ordial Cultist, or Afflicted with Ordial Essence, because of the power of the Machinist fueling this technology.
Leytech (art coming soon) is a branch that is tens of thousands of years old, based on a material created and used by Dragons for Dragon Sites. The criteria for Leytech is that the Character is either a Dragon Worshiper, or an Archon, or Primal Mage, because the material becomes inert in anyone else's hands due to the Dragons powering it.
Theotech (art coming soon) is a branch made by devout Unionists, that makes use of minimal physical tech that faith-generates solid holograms. The criteria for Theotech is that the Character is a Unionist (Dogmatic, Emended, or Evintarian), because the technology is fueled and manifests only with faith in the Everwatcher.
Damartech (art coming soon) is a branch made by Asaredu Eronidas, particularly by the Daru who summon the spirits of Ancestors to manifest this tech. The criteria for Damartech is that the Character is an Asaredu Faithful, as the Technology is fueled by Asinum and Da'amu manifesting the Spirits of the ancestors to fueld it.
Esratech (art coming soon) is a branch made by Esra Technicians who built the Esra Alwatta, guarding the designs and functions fiercely from outsiders. The criteria for Esratech is that the Character is an Esra Faithful, as the teachers and mentors flatout refuse to share such a pseudo-religious design tech with outsiders.
Custom Technological Branches
Custom Technological Branches are Technology Branches (styles of doing engineering) that are limited to specific Custom Kits or part of an Arken Pact or special arrangement. While anyone can operate them, only the holder of the Custom Kit or special arrangement knows the secret to producing in this style.
- There currently are no Custom Technological Branches as there are no Custom Technology Kits.
