Shapeshifting

From MassiveCraft Wiki

Shapeshifting is a trait or power that mortals have in Aloria to change the way they look through a variety of means. Shapeshifting in general describes any and all types of appearance changing Mechanics (that are not explicitly Transformations). Generally, when a Mechanic attributes Shapeshifting without any limitations to a Character, it means they have access to every part of Shapeshifting defined below. Some Mechanics will only present limited Shapeshifting, in which case what aspects of a person can be changed will be specified in the Mechanic. Shapeshifting is a Mechanic shared by a rare amount of Character Designs, good examples are the Slizzar Heritage, and a few types of Godborn or Arkenborn.

Shapeshifting Rules

  • Full Shapeshifting always counts as a Disguise when changing, Limited Shapeshifting does not.
  • Shapeshifting can happen within seconds, but can also be done over longer periods of time, it is up to the player.
  • Shapeshifting cannot stack on top of another Disguise or Transformation. Only your default body can be Disguised.
  • Shapeshifts cannot be forced off a person, even with Anti-Magic, Shapeshifting is semi-permanent.

Shapeshifting Traits

Shapeshifting can be used to change a number of things about a person. If a Shapeshifter has full Shapeshifting, all of the below traits can be changed. If the Shapeshifter only has Limited Shapeshifting, specific traits below will be mentioned as accessible, the others are not.

  • Face: Involves changing the structure of the face, for example making it more oval-like, changing eye colors, nose bone structure, etc.
  • Body: Involves changing the shape of the body, muscle, fat, width, height, skin-tone, proportions, etc.
  • Hair: Involves changing hairstyles, textures, colors, facial hair (or the absence) body hair (or the absence).
  • Heritage: Involves changing heritage fully or partially, appearing Half-Heritage, or taking on aspects of other heritages (like Eronidas tusks).
  • Other: Involves adding things to the body that do not naturally exist, like horns, tails, claws, scales, extra limbs, etc.

Affliction Mimicry

It is technically possible to mimic Afflictions for example, by having a Shapeshifter take on red eyes. Shapeshifting does not grant a person other traits or Mechanics associated with Afflictions however, so others may become suspicious if for example a Shapeshifter pretending to be a Vampire, never feeds. Similarly, it is possible to Shapeshift away from appearing Afflicted, for example by hiding Affliction traits with Shapeshifting. This does not remove the other detectable traits of Afflictions however, and may only provide cover in rare instances.
