Part of Geography lore.

Throughout Alorian history, there have been many kingdoms, nations, and empires that have risen. While some still exist today, many others lay in ruins or have been morphed beyond their origins. This list of the Past Nations and States of Aloria not only acts as a repository of historical knowledge but also background information for various conflicts. This page is considered Expanded Lore, meaning it is not required reading for a roleplay experience on MassiveCraft but can be used to add additional depth and content to Roleplay.

Corontium

  • The Breizh Kingdoms: An array of ancient kingdoms and marcher states once existed across Kintyr, with roles to play, and myriad connections to the ancient past and things long gone. While many have since lost these characteristics or fell long before the rise of the Regalian Empire, their remains are scattered across the region and are decently well documented. NOTE: The Breizh page has significant information on these different states. While it is a work in progress, the ideas represented there are broadly accurate to features of ancient Corontium during that era. To learn about these and other central Corontium states, click HERE
  • Amelore & The Kingdom of Regalia: Two parts of the same entity, or one subsumed beneath the other, these “two” regions were closely connected in the ancient past. Amelore was a Teledden slaving outpost independent of the Solvaan and attacked other nearby regions for Ailor and Eronidas slaves to fuel their sadistic experiments. Regalia at the time was on what is now the Crown Isle, and was likely a puppet state under total Teledden control, if not direct Teledden rule. These were both the target of the Five Family Rebellion and were dismantled in a matter of months once the conflict started.
  • Hecarian Kingdom: A nation nearly four centuries old by the time of its fall, the Hecarian Kingdom was founded by the Hacar Ailor. Followers of a unique faith, Hethsath’s Tithe, this proto-Empire expanded itself through conquest without blades, though plenty of shields and bows. Their great lumber forts guarded their borders well, and allowed the First People, the Hacar, to absorb several others, all from neighboring tribal groups or states. However, the Tithe was Hacar-focused, and when Regalia began a war of conquest with the sprawling state in 28 AC, most of their subject peoples broke away, either into the arms of Regalia, or back home to their people. The Hecarian king died at the end of the First Hacarian Conflict, and the nation collapsed, though survivors soon gathered under a new banner.
  • Hacarian Kingdom: Based in what had once been the southern provinces of the Hecarian Kingdom located over the Shoenn River, the Hacarian Kingdom was a Hacar ethnostate that rejected elements of their old faith, turning to bladed weapons to defend themselves. Founded by the Hecarian king’s nephew, the nation now focused on riverboats and pike weapons to keep Regalia at bay. However, they were bypassed and in 71 AC, the Second Hacarian Conflict ended their nationhood within a matter of months as they fought on three sides against the Empire.
  • Sollerian Princedoms: This collection of states was a series of princedoms across what is now known as Solleria, and was initially made up of colonies of Teledden. However, they were soon changed by their surroundings and adherence to the Estelley goddess Sinnavei into the Solvaan known today. Their states broke away from the Allorn Empire, and remained independent though loosely aligned with each other for millennia, until the Five Family Rebellion. It was then that they joined with the rebels, and helped take down Amelore, becoming part of the Regalian Empire which saw them transition into regions part of that great state.
  • Iltar Kingdom: An egalitarian state founded by the Iltar people, the Iltar Kingdom was a nation over three centuries old by the time of its fall. Ruled by a co-reigning king and queen, and occasionally queens and kings together, the state focused on trade by helping link various groups outside of the core of Corontium with the interior, while also serving as a safe harbor for many travelers. Also skilled in the arts, and well known for their stone carvings, the state and its people had their faith in The Ebullience, which put the honest making of wealth and using that wealth to better others above all else. However, as a trading state, many faith minorities came to thrive in the nation, and Unionism came after the formation of the Regalian Empire. In a nearly bloodless coup in 69 AC, a Unionist faction of the royal family overthrew their cousins and took power, with the Empire then taking the land for themselves at the invitation of the usurpers.
  • Sudlander Principality: One of the few nations of Corontium formed after the rise of the Regalian Empire, Sudlander was a Daendroque merchant colony in what is now Girobalda. Its merchant leadership soon titled themselves princes and helped facilitate greater trade from Westwynd to Corontium, taking over the hole left by the fall of the Iltar Kingdom a decade or so earlier. Oddly enough, Sudlander was still prospering when it freely requested to be absorbed by the Regalian Empire in 112 AC, as its wealthy leaders sought to get well ahead of any future conflicts. Sudlander was smoothly incorporated shortly afterward.
  • Zauna Kingdom: The nation of the enigmatic Zaubez people, Zauna was a ceremonial monarchy with “dukes” each controlling a major island and the surrounding territory, holding most of the real power, in what is now called The Rim Isles. The capacity for warfare was fairly limited among the Zaubez. Still, scryers and the society’s Mages did battles to determine victories, and the odd ceremonial raid was also carried out. The nation was also unique for following the bizarre faith of Fothaznar, which believed in a decapitated bird entity. The region the kingdom controlled became a major trade lane for the Regalian Empire and external parties. Over time, migration, and the spread of Unionism, saw the nation’s territorial claims weaken. In 178 AC, the kingdom fought a bloodless ceremonial conflict in which they declared war, and then surrendered later the same day, and were then taken into the Regalian fold.
  • Wirtemcaller Kingdom: An ancient kingdom, dating as old as several Breizh nations, the Wirtermcaller state was a militaristic power with significant advancement in culture, and with a territorial spread at its height said to rival even Solleria. Draconists in faith, the ancient Wirtem also expressed significant political influence on neighboring regions, establishing petty nations or client relationships with puppets to help them rule areas outside of their boundaries. However, the militarization of the Velheim to their north and political squabbles internally meant that regional rulers increasingly asserted their independence from the monarchy. When the Skagger Horde broke the Wirtem lines and flooded south in 105 AC as the kingdom collapsed, many Wirtem lords became bastions that swore loyalty to Regalia or soon sought their aid. Examples of Wirtemcaller architecture have remained intact in many regions of what is now modern Wirtem territory but elsewhere, their fortresses once lording over more tribal peoples, now sit in ruins.
  • Fjellmenn Kingdom: An isolationist group of island-dwelling Velheim located off the western coastline of Anglia, they were content to avoid conflict with their neighbors. Miners, living in stone houses, the Fjellmenn all disappeared in 70 BC, their food left at tables, objects fallen to the ground, and more. It is believed they were somehow called back into Volaheim by the region’s Vaarda Gate, but why, and how, remains unknown.
  • Skagger Horde: The Skagger Horde is a complex topic, and was the great enemy of the Regalian Empire for 111 years, from 68 to 179 AC. These militaristic Velheim emerged sometime around the Cataclysm, be it shortly before, or after, and came to dominate the politics of the existing Velheim in Drixagh. The most common theory is that they came from Ellador and Northbelt, driven to seek better lands after the Cataclysm wreaked havoc across the world. They found a land full of conflict, and dove into it, attacking the fledgling Regalian Empire, the Wirtemcaller Kingdom, and many others in raids for slaves, and to seek glory in battle. The Horde was many smaller hordes, led by fierce individuals often gifted with Artifacts of the Fornoss faith to aid in their conquests. However, the Horde had no central authority and began to collapse in the face of continued Regalian pressure. Many Skagger Velheim fled Drixagh before the signing of a peace treaty with those who remained, and the existing Velheim the Skaggers had supplanted in their arrival. While they were not a formal state, their significance to Regalian history requires they be included on this list.

Lost Empires

Sariyd Empire

The Sariyd Empire is the lost Empire of the Qadir. An expansive state that was noted for its immense technological knowledge, it was also enthralled by the service of a dark Ordial god. Once this being was successfully removed, the Sariyd continued to flourish, however, a conflict eventually arose against the Dragons of Farahdeen. Wielding terrible weapons, the Qadir hunted their foes and drove them back with terrible force. Feeling trapped, these Dragons thus enacted the Great Storm, a terrible cyclone of sand that annihilated the Sariyd Empire and allowed the Songaskia (the offspring of these Dragons) to come in and easily pick up the pieces. Today the Songaskian Masaya that conquered the ruins of the Sariyd demonizes this old state as cold logical run amok without emotion. Most Sariyd ruins were integrated into the buildings of the Songaskian Masaya, but some still lie undiscovered or remote out in the deserts of Farahdeen.

  • NOTE: The Sariyd have an extensive history that should be read by any aspiring Qadir player, and non-Qadir should be aware that much of this knowledge is not publicly known, and requires proper study in a character's backstory to understand the events that took place. Regardless, information on Sariyd History can be read HERE

Allorn Empire

The Allorn Empire is seen by some as the true successors to the ancient Seraph, possessing a vast empire that stretched across the west of Aloria, with client states and outposts reaching even further. However, millennia of decadence and politics degraded the nation and the Elven people as a whole into a squabbling group of principalities who only nominally owed any loyalty to the Empress. The Fifth Void Invasion put an end to the Empire while the Wildering and the chaotic slave uprisings that followed helped to shatter the state into many fragments. Hundreds of structures from the Allorn Empire dot the west, some still in use like those found in Ithania, while others are overgrown ruins dotting the jungles of regions like Westwynd.

  • NOTE: The Allorn Empire was reborn in the year 309 AC, and further information on this modern polity can be read HERE

Dewamenet Empire

The Dewamenet Empire is a polity very poorly understood in the modern-day. Tales of its power survive among the Asha, who tell of great metal constructs and great, powerful acts achieved through their harnessing of lightning. Further details of this civilization have been obscured by the Elves though, who upon the conquest of the Dewamenet Empire, wiped any trace of it from the world. Unfortunately, they could not wipe out its citizens, the Asha, and instead degraded and enslaved them. Despite these efforts, the shifting sands of western deserts sometimes reveal new ruins of this ancient past, while the Ashal Islands largely retained the impressive, massive mechanisms of the Dewamenet Empire from its height, which were used to help give the Asha new life upon the collapse of the Allorn Empire.

Dwarven Empire

The Dwarven Empire was the most sophisticated subterranean society in Aloria for centuries before the Cataclysm, perhaps even rivaling the advanced technology of the Meraic and their underground storehouses. Made up of multiple Holds, the Empire was isolated for years before contact first with Ailor, and then with Elves, changed the very nature of the Dwarves forever. Coming to shun the surface after a disastrous conflict saw them abandon their old faith, the great entrance towns to their Holds were sealed as the Race dug even deeper into the earth. There, they found the Dakkar, which unleashed hell upon the Dwarven world as the warrior creatures surged up to meet this new foe. Over the coming decades, many Holds fell, and gradually, the Dwarven Empire as it was known came to an end. The ancient glory of the Dwarven people is something those remaining can largely only imagine now.

Hedrylli Empire

The Hedrylli Empire was a scourge of the seas in the wake of the weakened naval power of the Allorn Empire. Founded in Ellador, the Empire based itself upon sea jarls raiding out across the world to bring glory and wealth back to the king and the homeland. They raided far and wide, with bases across the northern reaches of Aloria, with even the Cataclysm not ending their activities. While there was indeed some disruption, parts of the nation back in Ellador sunk into the sea, it was all weathered well. The true end came with the Vampire Wars, and the losses the nation sustained at that time. Today, the glories of the Hedrylli Empire can be found in the epics of the Kingdom of Hedryll and strewn about southeastern Ellador.

Essa Empire

The Essa Empire was once a major political entity on the world stage, a close second to the Regalian Empire and the Songaskian Masaya. Founded with the union of the Slizzar and Allar together on Hadar, its Slizzar leader Empress Mananya-Manya sought to birth a great nation from the splintered Slizzar and divided Allar of the various regional Chrysant Kingdoms. But the Regalian Empire, seeking a way to escape its pessimism, chose to go to war with the Essa Empire in the brutal Chrysant War. The campaign saw the systematic destruction of hundreds of settlements and miles of natural terrain. Today the Empire is destroyed, with its former member states largely dissolved into new states which often follow the directions of the Regalian Empire.

Trivia

  • There have been many more minor and inconsequential states that left no to little impact on the world than are listed here, especially within the borders of the Regalian Archipelago. Many tribal societies never founded states of their own, or if they did, it was only thanks to external pressures or significant cultural exchange.
