Name Meselya, Moon-mirror Memory
Origin Estelley
Type Jewelry

Meselya is a glimmering, ornate ring of Lanlath design forged by the famous guild of Magical smiths called the Masters of Magnificence, who are responsible for a wide array of Lanlath heirloom weapons and artefacts distributed amongst the honorable Senleya knights and heroes of the people. This particular ring is the signet of the Great House of Val-Ilaï, which was famously destroyed along with much of their army and people in the throes of Cataclysm while attempting to discover what had become of the crumbling Allorn Empire. Since then the ring has passed from holder to holder as a symbol of both the prophecy that someday a new heir of the Val-Ilaï family will emerge from the shadows with all the family regalia and reclaim their dishonored name, but also an icon of bad luck, that if the wearer fails to honor the worthiness of this famous item, they will meet the same fate as its last bearers.

Origins

The House of Val-Ilaï were responsible for some of the first forays that the Senleya knights made to bring Ailor trained in the art of warfare to the peaceful valleys of Lathan. They were travelers and wayfarers with the sparrowhawk as their sigil, and a famously kindly disposition that made them easy to work with and less stiff than the average formal Lanlath nobility. In those days the Lanlath were already enemies of the Allorn Empire with the highest of suspicion and eyes on the back of their heads, so they traveled secretly and masquerading as Teledden. If one were to ask the average Elf a century ago, even a learned Allorn scholar, they might reply that Val-Ilaï was the name of a wayfarer family from the northern provinces that disappeared in the Mage Wars: but this is not so, for they were neither from the northern provinces, nor Allorn Elves at all, who disappeared back into Lathan when the portals closed, not because of the Mage Wars. After their fall in Cataclysm in protection of the people, things become a lot murkier, and it is unclear if there are even any Val-Ilaï descendants alive and what has become of them.

Appearance

Meselya is a clearly magical ring inscribed with the sigils of feathered bird wings in faint silver upon a darker, more iron-toned body. Unlike most Elven artifice that features moonlike Loon-Solay or shimmering Nightsilver, Meselya's materials are decidedly mundane metals but with more of a persistent enchantment. When the bearer is writing a letter, Meselya bleeds silver ink that snakes down their pointer finger and flows into their pen, allowing them to write in whatever color they imagine for as long as they would wish. What makes the ring clearly magical is that the longer someone stares at them, the more the wings inscribed on its sides seem to flutter and move like an optical illusion made real, unseen birds flying up and down along the edges of the jewelry.

Artifact Mechanics

Meselya is a Lanlath Exist Magic Artifact. There are rules associated with Artifact Ownership, see the Artifact Page. Artifacts also provide Mechanics.

Permanent Mechanics

  • Whenever the user makes an out of combat Dice Roll using Magic, they always succeed at the highest result. (Remember, Strength may not always be capable of solving all problems, even if successful).

Artifactspark Mechanics

  • Choose 2 Free Packs from the following Categories: Magic Point Buy, Paladin Point Buy, Shielding Point Buy
  • Meselya is covered in winged iconography to honor the Senleya of House Val-Ilaï. When an ally fails a Defense Dice Roll within Emote Range, the wielder can grant that ally a Block Token (after the attack completes). This doesn’t use an action, but can only be used up to three times in a Combat Scene.
  • Meselya allows the user to classify any Sinistral Magic Point Buy Abilities as not Sinistral, but only for Abilities that specifically target the user or their allies. Additionally, Meselya allows its wielder entry to the abandoned Twilight Valley of Val-Ilaï under Lanlath escort, who have not resettled the place in respect for the House's return someday.

Legendary Artifactspark Mechanics

  • Choose 1 Free Pack from the following Category: Magic Point Buy
  • House Val-Ilaï was greatly admired for the poet-soldiers that it produced. Whenever the user makes an out of combat Dice Roll using Magic, they always succeed at the highest result. (Remember, Magic may not always be capable of solving all problems, even if successful). Additionally, the user can use their Magic Stat as their Persuasion Stat.
  • The Legendary Artifactspark Jewelry grants the user +2 Attack Stat (breaks cap up to 11) and +2 Defense Stat (breaks cap up to 9), and sets the minimum for their Attack and Defense Dice Rolls to 2. When the user is KO’d, they can choose to instantly teleport them, and the Artifact, safely to their home. This can only be done once (and must be reported to Lore Staff). Subsequent uses of this tepeort mechanic must sacrifice the Artifact’s Spark in order to teleport the user and the Artifact. The Artifact is considered de-sparked, and the Artifactspark is granted to whoever KO’d the user.
