Shielding Point Buy is part of the [[Proficiency]] System. Its packs allow a Character to use a shield, of any type. Any learned Technique can be used with any shield a Character knows how to use. Shielding Point Buy includes a set of abilities designed to protect the shield user from harm, and their allies.

Shielding Point Buy is part of the [[Proficiency]] System. Its packs allow a Character to use defensive items, represented by shields, crossguards, magic tomes, or other similar items or weapons. Any learned Technique can be used with any item a Character knows how to use, and can be flavored however they'd like. Shielding Point Buy includes a set of abilities designed to proactively protect the user, and their allies.

Shielding Point Buy operates under "Open Aesthetics" rules. What this means is, Shielding Point Buy can be freely used with the following guidelines and suggestions: shields, bucklers, bracers, large melee weapons, armored body parts, etc. This list is mostly comprehensive, but we accept suggestions for additions, within reason to the setting.  Alternatively, this Proficiency can be re-flavored as Magic. This Aesthetic Flavor has no effect on Ability functionality, but might alter if your Character is considered Occult or not. You decide when you use the Ability if it is Magic or not, and can choose to use it as Non-Magic, but you cannot choose in the moment if your Character is Occult or not Occult.

Additionally, set the minimum of your Defense Dice Rolls to 4 against anyone who has the Warned Status Effect. Shield Taunt lasts until all Warned Status Effects applied by Shield Taunt have been removed.

Once Per Combat You create a defensive zone within Range, ignoring LOS, and increasing your and allies’ Defense by +1, and their minimum Defense Roll by +1. If another ally within range has Shield Phalanx, they can activate it without using their Action in response, which can chain to allies further down the line from you. For each person using Shield Phalanx in a chain, increase the bonuses by +1, but never more than +5. Shield Phalanx lasts for the rest of your current Health Stage.
