Sandspite is a mechanical weapon that manages to look ancient, futuristic, and in the right place all at the same time: a colossal hammer formed from weighted brass gears that clicks and unfolds as its wearer lofts it, constantly ticking and humming to some unseen purpose of the green glow singing through the gaps. It is more than certainly a creation of the Ordial God the Machinist, who for centuries was the patron of the Skyborn people before their betrayal led to his untimely demise. Now the Machinist plots his revenge with the help of loyalists and new allegiants alike, who benefit from the corruptive influence of his malefic tools. There is no mystery about where Sandspite is from, or why it was made. The weapon is a gift from the Machinist handed down to one of his champions, to wield in his name and kill the enemies of his worship.
Sandspite, Hammer of Gears, was created by the Machinist, who was the patron of the Skyborn people for centuries before their betrayal led to its untimely demise. Now revived, the Machinist plots its revenge with the help of loyalists and new allegiance alike, who benefit from the corruptive influence of his malefic tools. Sandpsite was a gift from the Death God, handed down to one of its champions, to wield in its name and kill the enemies of its worship. It eventually made its way to Al-Alus, where it seduced a famous machining family to the power of the Machinist. When they were discovered, the family and Sandspite were exiled from the city, where the Artifact vanished into the hands of the Rishiq.

Origins
Description
Sandspite is relatively new, dating to some point in the 100s AC. With Machinist worship less easy to conceal amongst the desert tribes called the Rishiq, some tribes worked more open actions in his name to try to receive some of his favor for power, since the game of hiding away had become mostly pointless, and there was no way either the Skyborn or the Songaskians on the continent could meaningfully send men deep into the desert to fight them. A city family seduced to the power of the Machinist, previously a famous machining clan with high status in the courts of Al-Alus, was stripped of all honor and rank, purged from the memkeys, and exiled deep into the wastes for the dishonor of what they had done. But they took Sandspite with them, whereupon it vanished into the hands of other Rishiq.
Sandspite is classified as a Weapon Artifact, meaning it cannot be wielded at the same time as other Weapon Artifacts by the same owner. Sandspite is a tall, brass polearm with a gear network at the top of the shaft that unfolds into a hammerhead. The hammer face is embossed with Death Script, and the shaft with etchings in the Skyborn artistic style inlaid with blue rock. Sandspite's base is wrapped with a faded blue fabric. Through each gap in the gears, space seems to carry a sickly green glow.

Appearance
Sandspite is a two and a half meter tall hammer with a complex network of gears at the top of the haft that unfold the pole into the shape of a hammer head to strike with. The face is embossed with circular designs of spiraling Death Script so that the enemy can see the work of their foe as it strikes them, and the haft itself with complex etchings in the Skyborn artistic style inlaid with blue rock to give it a certain highclass air. Sandspite's very base, near the bottom of the weapon, is wrapped several times with a very faded piece of blue fabric that supposedly was tied there by the original bearer at the moment of familial exile, though this is difficult to confirm. Through each gap in the gears, no matter what angle the weapon is looked at, the empty space seems to carry a sickly green glow even though there is nothing there. The entire weapon looks like it is made of brass, but the metal weighs incredibly heavy, more akin to lead.

Artifact Mechanics
Sandspite is a Machinist Ordial Magic Artifact. There are rules associated with Artifact Ownership, see the Artifact Page. Artifacts also provide Mechanics.
Artifact Mechanics are split between Permanent Mechanics, Sparked Mechanics, and Sparked Combat Mechanics. Permanent Mechanics are always available to the wielder of the Artifact. Sparked Mechanics and Sparked Combat Mechanics are only available if the Artifact has an Artifactspark. Sparked Combat Mechanics are noted separately, because this makes them easier to find, but they are no different from Sparked Mechanics in general. For more information on Artifactsparks, read the Resources Page. For Rules on Artifact ownership, see the Artifacts Page.

* For mortal standards, there is next to nothing that Sandspite cannot be used to tinker with. The user may repair any Common Technological Branch, even if it is not a Branch they know. (Try to be conscientious when other players feel pushed out of their niche however!) Additionally, the user counts as having Ordial Magic while wielding this Artifact.
* This Artifact can steal the Artifactspark from other defeated Artifactholders and can hold more than one Artifactspark inside of it. Other Mechanics may derive functions from the number of Artifactsparks. Any change in the number of Artifactsparks must always be reported in a Ticket. If this Artifact has more than one Artifactspark, being defeated and having an Artifactspark stolen will only result in the loss of one, rather than all.

* This Artifact allows the user to temporarily Transform into a Mystech of their chosen design, losing their own Heritage Traits, and gaining those of the Mystech. If the user has some kind of status or Mechanic that would prevent them from being Mystech, then this Mechanic does not work. The user can toggle between their normal state and this Mystech Transformation at any time outside of Combat.
Artifactspark Mechanics
Sparked Mechanics
* Choose 2 Free Packs from the following Categories: Adapt Point Buy, Tech Point Buy, Magic Point Buy
* Sandspite can be used to place a Deathkiss Curse on anyone with 0 HP in a Combat scene that Sandspite and its wielder are present. This Curse lasts exactly 96 hours after which it is self-cleansed. In the first 24-hour period since being placed, the victim has 8 HP whenever they start Combat. The next 24 hours after that, 6 HP, 4 HP for the 24 hours after that, and the final 24 hours, the victim only has 2 HP whenever they start Combat. This Curse cannot be removed in any conventional way and has to be waited out.
* Sandspite has the power to destroy, much as it does to create. Sandspite can be used to disable/destroy any technology, including gates and doors, which it can break open. Consult DM’s for Event Usage. When used on a Mech Automata (or Bound Automata) Mystech, this can instantly deal -4HP, or work like the Mindcontrol Pack from Adapt Point Buy (Mech’s Choice).
* Sandspite when wielded brings with it the fury of Ard-al-Nur, casting a Combat scene in a sandstorm. Anyone that is a participant in this Combat scene (even allies) except Sandspite's own wielder, has their total Move per Turn halved, from 10 to 5. Anyone with a Mechanic that grants them immunity to Magical Weather Effect (for example Isldar) is immune to this effect.
* The existence of Sandspite is a regrettable one, for any not sworn to the Machinist. For anyone who is not an Ordial Cultist, or has Ordial Magic, apply a -1 Defense Stat reduction in a 3 Block Radius around the user.
Sparked Combat Mechanics
Legendary Artifactspark Mechanics
* This Artifact's wielder can choose 3 Free Packs from any Category and supplement their Character Application, though these Packs can only be used while the Artifact has an Artifactspark.
* Choose 1 Free Pack from the following Category: Tech Point Buy
* If someone other than the user uses a Sinistral Magic Point Buy Ability in Emote Range, the user can choose to gain +2HP. This can only happen once per Combat Scene.
* Sandspite grants the wielder a connection to the Machinists' most secret plans and knowledge. Once a month, the wielder can request blueprints for one of the Machinist’s Favored Weapons, a limited use technology of immense power (temporary partial custom kit). In return, however, the Machinist will demand something in return, with dire consequences if it is not acquired for it.
* This Artifact grants the wielder +2 Attack Stat (breaking Cap up to 11) while using Attack Emotes only. Additionally, when attacking, the wielder's Attack Dice Roll Minimum is 4. For every additional Artifactspark in the Artifact, this minimum is raised by +1.
* The Legendary Artifactspark Weapon grants the user +3 Attack Stat (breaks cap up to 11) and +1 Defense Stat (breaks cap up to 9), and sets the minimum for their Attack Dice Rolls to 5. When the user is KO’d, they can choose to instantly teleport them, and the Artifact, safely to their home. This can only be done once (and must be reported to Lore Staff). Subsequent uses of this teleport mechanic must sacrifice the Artifact’s Spark in order to teleport the user and the Artifact. The Artifact is considered de-sparked, and the Artifactspark is granted to whoever KO’d the user.

Artifacts are very cool, and make a Character super powerful. That being said, due to circumstances of Roleplay, a Character may end up holding onto an Artifact for months on end. This is generally not a problem, but we believe that Artifacts because of their uniqueness, should never be held onto in perpetuity by one Player. After a few months, it is time for the next player to be able to enjoy the artifact, and for this reason, Collectibles exist. After 120 days of non-consecutive Artifact ownership, an Artifact is automatically confiscated, and the Player who lost it is given a Collectible. Collectibles are thematically and aesthetically similar to the Artifact, meaning the loss of an Artifact does not visually detract from a Character's established design. However, they cannot hold Artifactsparks and only inherit the Permanent Mechanics from the Artifact they were generated from (including the rules limiting their use). On the other hand, Collectibles can never be stolen from their owner, a Collectible is owned forever, and there is no upper limit to the amount of Collectibles a Character can have, or wield/use at the same time. Collectibles may be traded away by their owner if they are unable to use the Permanent Mechanic due to the use limitation. To summarize this Artifact's Collectible properties:
* When this Artifact is exchanged for a Collectible, Sandspite explodes leaving behind a Gear of Morbid Machination.
*The Gear of Morbid Machination Collectible inherits the second Permanent Mechanic of Sandspite (not the Artifactspark stealing one) but can be used by anyone. While there are several Gears of Morbid Machination, each looks unique, though should be inspired by the appearance of Sandspite.

Sandspite, Hammer of Gears
Artifacts
NameSandspite, Hammer of Gears
OriginThe Machinist
TypeWeapon

Description

Sandspite is classified as a Weapon Artifact, meaning it cannot be wielded at the same time as other Weapon Artifacts by the same owner. Sandspite is a tall, brass polearm with a gear network at the top of the shaft that unfolds into a hammerhead. The hammer face is embossed with Death Script, and the shaft with etchings in the Skyborn artistic style inlaid with blue rock. Sandspite's base is wrapped with a faded blue fabric. Through each gap in the gears, space seems to carry a sickly green glow.

Artifact Mechanics

Artifact Mechanics are split between Permanent Mechanics, Sparked Mechanics, and Sparked Combat Mechanics. Permanent Mechanics are always available to the wielder of the Artifact. Sparked Mechanics and Sparked Combat Mechanics are only available if the Artifact has an Artifactspark. Sparked Combat Mechanics are noted separately, because this makes them easier to find, but they are no different from Sparked Mechanics in general. For more information on Artifactsparks, read the Resources Page. For Rules on Artifact ownership, see the Artifacts Page.

Permanent Mechanics

 • This Artifact can steal the Artifactspark from other defeated Artifactholders and can hold more than one Artifactspark inside of it. Other Mechanics may derive functions from the number of Artifactsparks. Any change in the number of Artifactsparks must always be reported in a Ticket. If this Artifact has more than one Artifactspark, being defeated and having an Artifactspark stolen will only result in the loss of one, rather than all.
 • This Artifact allows the user to temporarily Transform into a Mystech of their chosen design, losing their own Heritage Traits, and gaining those of the Mystech. If the user has some kind of status or Mechanic that would prevent them from being Mystech, then this Mechanic does not work. The user can toggle between their normal state and this Mystech Transformation at any time outside of Combat.

Sparked Mechanics

 • Sandspite can be used to place a Deathkiss Curse on anyone with 0 HP in a Combat scene that Sandspite and its wielder are present.
 • Sandspite when wielded brings with it the fury of Ard-al-Nur, casting a Combat scene in a sandstorm. Anyone that is a participant in this Combat scene (even allies) except Sandspite's own wielder, has their total Move per Turn halved, from 10 to 5. Anyone with a Mechanic that grants them immunity to Magical Weather Effect (for example Isldar) is immune to this effect.

Sparked Combat Mechanics

 • This Artifact's wielder can choose 3 Free Packs from any Category and supplement their Character Application, though these Packs can only be used while the Artifact has an Artifactspark.
 • If someone other than the user uses a Sinistral Magic Point Buy Ability in Emote Range, the user can choose to gain +2HP. This can only happen once per Combat Scene.
 • This Artifact grants the wielder +2 Attack Stat (breaking Cap up to 11) while using Attack Emotes only. Additionally, when attacking, the wielder's Attack Dice Roll Minimum is 4. For every additional Artifactspark in the Artifact, this minimum is raised by +1.

Collectible Artifact

 • When this Artifact is exchanged for a Collectible, Sandspite explodes leaving behind a Gear of Morbid Machination.
 • The Gear of Morbid Machination Collectible inherits the second Permanent Mechanic of Sandspite (not the Artifactspark stealing one) but can be used by anyone. While there are several Gears of Morbid Machination, each looks unique, though should be inspired by the appearance of Sandspite.
