Tarlach's Tears are a set of hereditary jewelry scavenged by a hero of old who journeyed between the five isles of Eriu-Innis in the name of the Eili Gods, so old as for its true nature to be forgotten, but new enough that it is decidedly real. Explanations for who Tarlach was range between him being an aged priest to him being a martial chieftain who fought back against Elven slavers from the Allorn Empire with shield and broadax, with villages having a different story depending on their location, but its owner's family lineage believes the tale about him having been a warrior. On his travels those he saved and helped showed him gratitude by giving him rough-cut emeralds which in those days laid in the dirt like the pebble stones and did not have to be mined from underground, and having amassed a small collection by his time he returned to his village, sacrificed them all to the Eili Gods. Either Jord or Daúw (again, depending on the retelling), returned a small portion of the emeralds to him in their refined shape, which he wove into the necklace that would become Tarlach's Tears. Contrary to expectations from the Artifact's name, his is not a tragic story: Tarlach is a rural folk hero in some parts of Eriu-Innis, and his story always ends well, no matter the shape it takes.
