Name | Sandspite, Hammer of Gears |
Origin | Machinist |
Type | Weapon |
Sandspite is a mechanical weapon that manages to look ancient, futuristic, and in the right place all at the same time: a colossal hammer formed from weighted brass gears that clicks and unfolds as its wearer lofts it, constantly ticking and humming to some unseen purpose of the green glow singing through the gaps. It is more than certainly a creation of the Ordial God the Machinist, who for centuries was the patron of the Skyborn people before their betrayal led to his untimely demise. Now the Machinist plots his revenge with the help of loyalists and new allegiants alike, who benefit from the corruptive influence of his malefic tools. There is no mystery about where Sandspite is from, or why it was made. The weapon is a gift from the Machinist handed down to one of his champions, to wield in his name and kill the enemies of his worship.
Origins
Sandspite is relatively new, dating to some point in the 100s AC. With Machinist worship less easy to conceal amongst the desert tribes called the Rishiq, some tribes worked more open actions in his name to try to receive some of his favor for power, since the game of hiding away had become mostly pointless, and there was no way either the Skyborn or the Songaskians on the continent could meaningfully send men deep into the desert to fight them. A city family seduced to the power of the Machinist, previously a famous machining clan with high status in the courts of Al-Alus, was stripped of all honor and rank, purged from the memkeys, and exiled deep into the wastes for the dishonor of what they had done. But they took Sandspite with them, whereupon it vanished into the hands of other Rishiq.
Appearance
Sandspite is a two and a half meter tall hammer with a complex network of gears at the top of the haft that unfold the pole into the shape of a hammer head to strike with. The face is embossed with circular designs of spiraling Death Script so that the enemy can see the work of their foe as it strikes them, and the haft itself with complex etchings in the Skyborn artistic style inlaid with blue rock to give it a certain highclass air. Sandspite's very base, near the bottom of the weapon, is wrapped several times with a very faded piece of blue fabric that supposedly was tied there by the original bearer at the moment of familial exile, though this is difficult to confirm. Through each gap in the gears, no matter what angle the weapon is looked at, the empty space seems to carry a sickly green glow even though there is nothing there. The entire weapon looks like it is made of brass, but the metal weighs incredibly heavy, more akin to lead.
Artifact Mechanics
Sandspite is a Machinist Ordial Magic Artifact. There are rules associated with Artifact Ownership, see the Artifact Page. Artifacts also provide Mechanics.
Permanent Mechanics
- For mortal standards, there is next to nothing that Sandspite cannot be used to tinker with. The user may repair any Common Technological Branch, even if it is not a Branch they know. Try to be conscientious when other players feel pushed out of their niche however!Additionally, the user counts as having Ordial Magic while wielding this Artifact.
Artifactspark Mechanics
- Choose 2 Free Packs from the following Categories: Adapt Point Buy, Tech Point Buy, Magic Point Buy
- Sandspite has the power to destroy, much as it does to create. Sandspite can be used to disable/destroy any technology, including gates and doors, which it can break open. Consult DM’s for Event Usage. When used on a Mech Automata (or Bound Automata) Mystech, this can instantly deal -4HP, or work like the Mindcontrol Pack from Adapt Point Buy (Mech’s Choice).
- The existence of Sandspite is a regrettable one, for any not sworn to the Machinist. For anyone who is not an Ordial Cultist, or has Ordial Magic, apply a -1 Defense Stat reduction in a 3 Block Radius around the user.
