A system of class exists, with both commoner and noble, but all are inclined to feel rich with piety. One boy believed this with all of his heart. His name was Ludwig Schulze. He was a lowborn, with a family that had perished from a terrible plague. To honor them, the boy submitted himself to the [[Viridian]]s in Calemberg. There, he trained for ten years, until graduating from squirehood. Ludwig, close friends with a quiet cobbler, was shocked to discover one day that the hermit had noble blood. He prayed to protect his dear friend- waking up to discover Fernweh the next morning.

Fernweh is a tower-shield made of rose gold steel. It is a heavy piece of equipment, specifically made to take as many hits as possible. Due to its weight, it is often lifted better with the use of two hands at once. Though, anyone trained well enough could carry it one-handed. Across the front of the shield, small, golden drops are scattered about the surface, which faintly glow in the dark. Those from Calemberg consider them to be tears shed by the [[Unionist]] Goddess Ness, while others think that it is dried blood spilled by Brand.
