NameCoins of Greed
OriginArken of Avarice
TypeItem

Coins of Greed (Also called Greed Coins) have been present for hundreds of years and have always signified the presence and influence of the Avarice Arken. There are many Coins of Greed present in Aloria; at least one is present in every economic sphere that uses coin-based currency and has magic present in society. Greed Coins can be created by Avarice himself or by powerful Avarice demons. Often conspirators that work with the Arken or worship him possess Greed Coins, but so many exist that it’s not unlikely for somebody to just come across one within a treasure horde, either.

Appearance

Coins of Greed can vary greatly in appearance based on the region they’re found in. Typically, a Greed Coin will appear nearly identical to any coin-type currency in the area it inhabits and will even change its shape if it stays in a new currency system for long enough. However, what makes a Greed Coin distinct is that they are often covered with motifs befitting the Avarice Arken, and any faces or people on the coin are replaced with the likeness of the Avarice Arken. For example, a Greed Coin in Regalia will appear like a one-piece regal, but the emperor’s profile is replaced with a profile of the Avarice Arken (who presently appears as a triceratops-esque Allar).

Artifact Mechanics

Coins of Greed are Void Magic Artifacts. There are rules associated with Artifact Ownership, see the Artifact Page. Artifacts also provide Mechanics.

Permanent Mechanics

  • The holder of a Coin of Greed becomes very attuned with the concept of Avarice. Against wealthy DM NPCs, they gain a +2 bonus to persuasion rolls that does not break cap, and can additionally re-roll a failed persuasion roll once, so long as the persuasion roll is done through making a monetary bribe of some kind. Coins of Greed are an Intangible Artifact. If a Coin of Greed does not have a Spark within it for 1 week, the Artifact is destroyed.

Artifactspark Mechanics

  • Choose 2 Free Packs from the following Categories: Magic Point Buy, Roguery Point Buy, Adapt Point Buy
  • A coin of Greed instills a hungry, ravenous greed within the holder. Those who possess a Coin of Greed have a +2 Attack Stat, +1 Defense Stat (breaks cap up to 11/9) boost when in direct combat against somebody who possesses Divinium, Artifact Sparks, Wealth Tokens, or a Sparked Artifact.
  • Those who hold the Coin of Greed can choose to summon the Avarice Arken, seeing as these coins are often seen as a token of their favor. Summoning the Arken consumes the spark within the artifact.

Legendary Artifactspark Mechanics

  • Choose 1 Free Pack from the following Category: Magic Point Buy
  • The holder of a coin of greed, if the coin is super charged with magic, can open a temporary rift into Avarice’s Infinite Vault, an expansive but dangerous pocket dimension where Avarice lives and keeps his horde of wealth. From here, they and a small party can enter the vault (which begins a DMed event) in which they may be able to possibly steal an object of high value from the Avarice Arken, though this also risks incurring the Arken’s wrath. After this rift is closed (at the end of the event) the artifact is desparked.
  • The Legendary Artifactspark Jewelry grants the user +2 Attack Stat (breaks cap up to 11) and +2 Defense Stat (breaks cap up to 9), and sets the minimum for their Attack and Defense Dice Rolls to 2. When the user is KO’d, they can choose to instantly teleport them, and the Artifact, safely to their home. This can only be done once (and must be reported to Lore Staff). Subsequent uses of this teleport mechanic must sacrifice the Artifact’s Spark in order to teleport the user and the Artifact. The Artifact is considered de-sparked, and the Artifactspark is granted to whoever KO’d the user.
