‘Kleos, kleos, kleos,’ was the motto that one elderly woman attributed to the figure known as Zissis Matiadis. Once upon a time ago, when the Evintarians were exiled from the Empire due to their beliefs, an Ailor ancestor of Ser Matiadis fell in love with an Eronidas who migrated from what is known as Kezzeret Sabu. Together, they raised their children under the Evintarian belief, and could even be accredited for founding a coliseum that stands to this day. A golden laurel was crafted after the couple pooled together their wealth, so that their love, which began their family, could always be remembered. Zissis eventually inherited this laurel, now the squire of a Bloodcast who belonged to Hellatia. Together, they protected many villages from evildoers and vagabonds, before a tragedy struck. Zissis, near the time of his graduation, succumbed to injuries inflicted by a wild cougar when he rushed forth to defend a poor priest’s child. His mentor, frozen in grief, sailed to Etosil so that the circlet could be put for display at the Basileon Chapterhouse. Kleos was not to be touched until a worthy successor could carry the torch of the Matiadis family. Thus, the challenge has been passed to the virtuous Ser Apostolikos.
Appearance
Kleos is a golden circlet that is shaped after the typical gladiator headpiece. While made from a rich material, it has lost much of its color over time, appearing to have darker spots of brown along its form. The circlet was made to be adjustable to most head shapes, suggesting that it could fit onto anyone. Along its center, Hellas characters are inscribed to spell out ‘kleos’.
