Dotting the Genevaud Cantons and the upper Waldmark are a series of small Temples, monasteries and nunneries, where in the seclusion of the mountain heights, fervent Unionists try to find closeness with the will of the Everwatcher and the Gods, and virtue in purity. Lacking the jubilant religious expressions of the southland and bright festivals, Unionism for these Wirtem people is a cold, stony thing, gazing down at them from judging statues that lie in wait, counting the depth of their sins. At one of these nunneries, the Cloister of Saint Agatha the Merciful, the statue of the sister after whom the place is so named stands with her palm reached out, as if she is offering something to the beholder. As part of their journey through Lothar tutelage, a younger Valeska von Kalterwald was obligated to stay at many of these little religious buildings as they were the only safe places to shelter from the terrible weather on their way across the mountains, replacing the function of inns. Slipping from their room at three in the morning to sate their restlessness, they stopped for a bit in the empty hall and knelt to pray to Agatha's statue, in whose name and in the name of whose patron Ness many Knightly Orders looked to find fulfillment about the justness of their goals. They prayed, and prayed and prayed, and the hours slipped away before when they opened their eyes at the raise of dawn and crowing of the cloister's roosters, a rosary hung from the statue's fingers for them to take.

Appearance

The Gray Rosary is a rosary of polished stone beads, each one of them perfectly spherical, with Unionist scripture in cursive hand micro-etched onto each of them. They are connected by a rough piece of handmade cord cut from river-reeds, with a loop allowing them to comfortably be worn at the belt, or counted in the hand as one prays. If the user is standing in a Unionist Temple, in just the right lighting, it looks like the scripture carved delicately into the Rosary is glowing in the colors of the sunlight reflected through the Temple's stained glass, though it's never too lasting to be certain.

Permanent Mechanics

The Gray Rosary is a Unionist Collectible Artifact. As an artifact, there are several rules associated with Artifact Ownership, see Artifact Page. It also provides the following Mechanics:

  • Highland Whispers: Valeska's possession of the Gray Rosary guides them to places of faith. Inexplicably, whenever they are traveling, even if horribly lost, they can luckily manage to stumble their way so that they will reach a Unionist Temple, monastery, or nunnery by the end of the day, as long as one is in walking range.
