Tilennen Fusuturu is a large reed plant native to Farahdeen with a unique physical appearance. It has persisted since the time of the Sariyd Empire, and is largely depicted as a symbol of survival in the harsh elements. It has become greatly appreciated among the Songaskia of today, used to decorate many of their public spaces not just within the Songaskian Masaya, but in enclaves of the Race across Aloria.

History

Tilennen Fusuturu has gone by a number of names over the centuries of civilization across Farahdeen. It was first identified by the Sariyd Empire over a thousand years ago at the dawn of their formation, though it was likely known to the scattered Qadir who had lived across Farahdeen before that time. It had many myths about its creation within the polytheism of the Qadir, often attributing it to the unions of war and desert gods with those of greenery and nature as sharp, tall, and vibrant. The plant was capable of surviving in even highly arid environments, however, it was not wholly free of its need for water and often grew at the fringes of fields, oases and wider society when not transposed within settlements for an ornamental purpose. Then, upon the impact of the Great Storm, many examples of the plant located inland were wiped out by tons of shifting sand. The verdure only survived closest to the coastline, but a few scant oases and fringe areas in the desert were also able to sustain the hardy plant. The early Songaskians came across the flora and were impressed by this nature, taking a great liking to it as an ornamental plant and seeing its popularity as a common decorative element spread out across the Songaskian Masaya. Most Qadir, now turned to survival and the functions of Clockwork, came to ignore the plant and view it mostly as a weed. Since this time, Tilennen Fusuturu has been a staple ornamental to Songaskian courtyards and gardens across Aloria as while it could survive in the great warmth, it provided adaptable to temperate and even chilly climates.

Appearance

Tilennen Fusuturu has an extremely varying growth based on the region it is in and the amount of water it receives. The largest members of the species can grow up to eight feet tall, while the shortest may be barely a foot or so, typically found in the ornamental variety. The plant has fibrous roots which are often pale brown or white, which then meet at the base of the individual major reed stalk, or several minor stalks. These stalks have a clear pentagonal structure to them, with a concave surface on each side which also firmly points these edges out. The plants are a deep, almost black green at the base but fade into a more general dark green by the tip of the plant, which sometimes features a curled growth of dull yellow flowers that periodically dry up and regrow regardless of season. Each reed is also covered in a patchy layer of short pointed leaves a similar color to the plant’s stem.

Uses and Abilities

Unlike most other reeds, the Tilennen Fusuturu has few to any uses due to its peculiar shape which resists drying and weaving. The artform is not impossible, but is largely considered lost. Only being practiced among some of the rural Qadir on the Al-Alus Peninsula, it exists as the last remnants of an ancient way of life the Great Storm almost extinguished. Tilennen Fusuturu instead finds much more use as a simple decorative plant carried with Songaskians across the world and used to decorate courtyards, foyers and more in a diverse array of climates.

Trivia

  • Tilennen Fusuturu is probably one of the few reeds in Aloria to not grow in wetland or swampy areas.
