Mocra, while it is common and easily mined across many locations in Aloria, is only workable by the Altalar who unlocked its secrets shortly before the Cataclysm. Despite attempts by the Ailor and other Races ever since to acquire these secrets, Altalar smiths have dutifully guarded their techniques on how to work the beautiful pink and eye-catching metal. They can form it into an array of objects, though the most common use is in jewelry.

History
Mocra was known to Aloria before the Cataclysm, but none could determine how to effectively work with it. Even Altalar efforts failed for centuries, but in 300 BC, Altalar forgers in Ithania finally shaped the metal as they desired it. However, unlike in times past, this knowledge was not openly shared. The collapse of Altalar unity is largely to blame for this, in addition to the desire by those several Altalar masters to maintain a monopoly in the production of the substance to benefit themselves alone. Even as the Ailor of the region ascended, it remained a closely guarded secret. This continued even after the Cataclysm, and it is an example of a rare instance of Altalar rejection of Ailor equality or assistance. By 30 AC, these Altalar moved south, into the Northern Elven Kingdoms that were forming. There, they mastered their craft further and only took Altalar apprentices, obsessed with the idea that the mastery of Mocra had been one of the last gifts to the Altalar people before their end. The art has remained an Altalar secret ever since that time, despite the common existence of Mocra on several continents. This has irritated many, especially the Ailor, and with the conquest of the Northern Elven Kingdoms and the formation of L’Elvellen, there was hope that the secrets could be pried from the clutches of the dead smiths. Sadly, this proved untrue. To this day, the knowledge of how to work the material remains an Altalar secret, causing them alone to be able to render objects in Mocran splendor.

The smith who did so had supposedly been killed by a jealous rival, her own apprentice, though he was never able to learn the secrets of how to work it, and so they were lost. ===Appearance===
Mocra appears naturally in dense clusters near and around mountains, especially near or around mountain water sources. It has a dirty red coloration when extracted, but upon refinement has a very fine, light pink hue to it mixed with small swirls of paler and darker pink. Finishing it off is a fine opaline sheen that is quite eye-catching in lighting.

General Uses
Mocra is most commonly used in jewelry, especially Altalar jewelry, though Ailor and other Races often commission or ask for less ostentatious pieces for their own use. Most commonly it is used in earrings and necklaces. Other uses for the material include weaponry, though anyone who buys or commissions such blades is almost certainly a collector, an eccentric, or has a massively inflated ego. It is also used for a variety of utility objects, most commonly combs or objects for feminine beauty.

Mocra, while common and easily mined across many locations in Aloria, was long unworkable by even the great, masterful Race of the Altalar. After the Cataclysm however, the Ailor of Ithania learned techniques and methods on how to do it, infuriating the Altalar for a short time before they gave in and accepted the Ailor role in its creation. Today, many objects are made with Mocran splendor, though it is most commonly used in fine, elaborate jewelry.

History

Mocra was known to Aloria before the Cataclysm, but none could determine how to effectively work with it. Even Altalar efforts failed for centuries. But in 100 AC, Ailor forgers in Ithania finally shaped the metal as they desired it. This caused an enormous outrage among the Altalar community of blacksmiths, many clinging to an ancient story which said it had been forged by Altalar in 300 BC. The smith who did so had supposedly been killed by a jealous rival, her own apprentice, though he was never able to learn the secrets of how to work it, and so they were lost. Still, this rejection could not last long, as the Altalar native to Ithania were the first to give up the charade in order to benefit from the beautiful material. Mastery of Mocra became a gift of the Ailor, and one they have shared to this day across the realms of Daen and the broader Regalian Empire.

Characteristics

Appearance

Mocra appears naturally in dense clusters near and around mountains, especially around mountain water sources. It has a dirty red coloration when extracted, but upon refinement has a very fine, light pink hue to it mixed with small swirls of paler and darker pink. Finishing it off gives it a fine opaline sheen that is quite eye-catching in lighting.

General Uses

Mocra is most commonly used in jewelry, typically for earrings and necklaces. Other uses for the material include weaponry, though anyone who buys or commissions Mocra blades is almost certainly a collector, an eccentric, or has a massively inflated ego. It is also used for a variety of utility objects, most commonly combs or objects for feminine beauty.

Trivia

 • Mocra most commonly exists in Daen, Corontium and Farah’deen, though there are still significant deposits in Hadaria.
 • The Pale Knight is a Knight known in Ithanian folktales for wearing a full suit of Mocra armor while wielding a sword and shield of the same substance. Surprisingly, this figure is based in truth, on a man known today only as Christophe who was a Knight from 40 to 71 AC.
